A Fairfax County School Board member has sent letters to the district's 24 high school principals urging them to ensure that students hear the views of people who believe that homosexuality is a choice and a "very destructive lifestyle."
In a Jan. 30 letter, Stephen M. Hunt (At Large) asked the principals to host speakers with an "ex-gay perspective" and offer students, teachers and counselors literature provided by the conservative group Concerned Women for America and other organizations.
"Children are being taught that homosexuality is normal and natural. It is neither," Hunt wrote. "To state that it is normal or natural is to promote the myth that accompanies the homosexual activist rhetoric."
...
But in the letter Hunt said students often are exposed to the "Will and Grace version of homosexuality." He contended in the letter that gays often suffer drug and alcohol abuse or physical abuse and that gay men don't live as long as heterosexual counterparts. "There are huge ramifications for people who may make a choice to go into that lifestyle, and we should make sure they are fully aware of the entire issue," Hunt said in an interview.

Fine. Teach your own children whatever you want. Keep your propaganda away from my children.

Your point of view lacks biblical understanding, most likely intentionally in order to justify your lifestyle, whatever that may be, but just in case, Christians are under a new covenant. I probably deserve stoning for things I've done, but thank the Lord Jesus for His grace.
Gods character is impeccable.
2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
May God bless you Crazy man.

You have taken the subject of this forum and used it as your own agenda to promote homosexuality and anti religion.
I happen to know Steve. He poses a great challenge to the schools. If you are going to have homosexual speakers then why not have anti homosexual speakers? This movement to teach non school related subject to our children is ridiculous. There are a lot of parents and non parents who don't want their tax dollars being used to promote personal agenda and improving a schools image to the Washington Post of the Homosexual organizations. Thats not what public school is designed for. That sort of crap is for college and then there is a choose among the students to attend the seminar. In my highschool you attended all seminars or sat in detention.
Unless you want to get back on topic instead of getting into a useless discussion over if the bible is real or whatever, I suggest dropping it.

The fact that homosexual behavior exists in nature amoung other species should indicate something but I guess this board member doesn't want to acknowledge that.Homosexuality (in human beings) is typically defined as having a preference for sex with the same sex.
Give me some examples in the animal kingdom where that is the case.

The fact that homosexual behavior exists in nature...
Just the other day I was getting hungry when I remembered that often, in nature, the male will eat his offspring. I looked around for one of my kids to devour but neither one was available so I ordered a pizza. Good old Momma Nature. Next time they might not be so lucky.

Steve. He poses a great challenge to the schools. If you are going to have homosexual speakers then why not have anti homosexual speakers? I would rather neither be taught in school.....but if the former is to be done, I absolutely want the latter.

You said: He contended in the letter that gays often suffer drug and alcohol abuse or physical abuse"
And so do straight people and couples in heterosexual relationships.
Perhaps we should just outlaw people and relationships altogether.
The fact that homosexual behavior exists in nature amoung other species should indicate something but I guess this board member doesn't want to acknowledge that.
***
All kinds of behavior exists in nature. Some of this behavior we call normal, or acceptable, and some we do not. We find viscious behavior in the animal kingdom. For example, a pet dog may become viscious and dangerous to others. We do not turn our heads and say, "Well, this is natural, so let it continue." No, instead we end the behavior, either by training, or if necessary, putting the animal down. (And no, I am NOT advocating killing homosexuals.)
We see all kinds of behavior among humans in society. Some of this behavior we call normal, and tolerate it, and some we do not. We can argue about whether homosexual behavior it normal, but to say that because it occurs in nature it must be tolerated is not proven out in how we deal with other behaviors. Some of these behaviors we outlaw (violent crime and theft, for example); other behaviors we grudgingly tolerate, but denounce (flag burning comes to mind); others we recognize as different, but part of an accepted culture (e.g., lip plates, multi-piercings in "interesting" places on the body, Goth fashion); others we observe with humor (insert latest fad behavior here). For many of us, homosexual BEHAVIOR (not orientation, that may not be a matter of choice) is behavior that, while legal (thanks to the US Supreme Court's reversal of the Bowers case), is not accepted as normal or mainstream. Others are free to disagree.
I think the point about drug, alcohol and physical abuse in the gay "community" left out the intended statement that this abuse is higher among those is gay relationships than in heterosexual ones. I don't know the stats, but that clearly seems to be his intended point.
Your statement that "perhaps we should just outlaw people and relationships altogether" is akin to saying that since there are auto accidents when drivers obey the speed limits and when they don't, we should just outlaw cars.
Sorry for the rant, maybe just too much coffee....

"Children are being taught that homosexuality is normal and natural. It is neither," Hunt wrote. "To state that it is normal or natural is to promote the myth that accompanies the homosexual activist rhetoric." Silly School Board Member. Who told you that the purpose of school was to teach young children the truth?
You will suffer greatly for your mistake.

exactly.
I don't want to pay for that stuff. My high school (this was back in Texas) We didn't have text books in some classes and other were all but ripped to shreds.
But we always found money for every ex druggie with a sob story that came through town claiming to be a "speaker"
I think that may have been the point Steve was making. Presenting an option, get rid of the agenda, or present both sides. I can see the Fairfax county schools dropping the speakers before they bring in someone who used to be gay.

God also encouraged the stoning of people who committed adultery and rival tribes that believed in other gods at one point as well. If you're going to misinterpret the Bible at least do so in an intelligent manner.
Stoning other tribes? Just try to find that.
Shalom.

Although I still believe it doesn't belong in the curricula any way....particularly in lower grades.

The fact that homosexual behavior exists in nature...The expression of so-called "homosexual behavior" in nature is nothing at all like the condition of homsexuality in human beings. I've spent many years studying the sexual behavior of animals as a student and as a research scientist. In every instance I've seen, homosexual intercourse occurs briefly and accidentally, when the mounting male is attempting intercourse with a female and sometimes a male will--in a blind fit of excitement when many animal are in a group---mount, briefly, another male. Such couplings are always abruptly terminated by the recipient or when the mounting male discovers his error.
The behavior is not typical, it is brief, it is accidental and, when given a choice, males decidedly prefer females.
In short, there aren't parallels of human homosexuality in the animal kingdom.

When all is said and done the only "proof" you have that the Bible is God's word is the "testimony" of the people who wrote it which for all we really know could be self-serving and wrong. There will come a day when you will realize that you're mistaken about this.
To: gieriscm
Brave man, but I'm sure this is a career limiting move for him. The gay activist establishment cannot allow a diversity of views on the morality of homosexual activity to get to our children.
