STATE OF THE UNION -- 2005 [Live Thread]
2/2/05
Posted on 02/02/2005 3:43:44 PM PST by Timeout
The pre-spin: Bush will spend about 1/2 the speech on foreign policy, 1/2 on domestic, with heavy emphasis on Social Security reform. It's said he will provide a detailed tutorial on the SS system and its problems with a few details on his personal accounts proposal.
Laura's guests are said to be an Afghan voter and an Iraqi voter (too bad there's no Ukrainian wearing an orange hat!).
Should we start a drinking game on how many times the pool camera swings to Hillary? Hmmm. Probably not...it would likely hamper out typing ability.
Word on the blogs has it that the closing part of the speech is a hum-dinger. Set your VCR's.
Report here on outrageous MediaCrat spin before AND after the SOTU. Pictures and screen caps welcome.

Well, I am off to bed. What a wonderful speech! What a great man our President is! See you guys tomorrow!

Referring to Peggy Noonan - you said: "that is a Dem tacitc, we as Christians and compassionate conservatives should forgive her and move on......"
Sorry but we are fighting for our children and grandchildren in ways big and small and Peggy Nothing should get herself out of the way.
To: EternalVigilance
Means-testing SS makes perfect sense. Nothing would make the system solvent faster than that
So it's just welfare for old people right? Why not do away with the farce and just roll the costs into the general revenue and tax system? Do I at least get a kiss for the d#cking I've been taking since I started working at the age of 16?

Well, so far I could live without any SS myself.
But the rub is this: what about those who lost their portfolio's in the Clinton Stock market ".com" scam.
Can they save enough from scratch in the next 20 years to live with virtually no SS. I don't think so. With all the downsizing, outsourcing... I mean, can you build up a big nest egg on minimum wages at Wal-Mart.
That is the problem.
I don't see anybody coming out with those answers. Surely, the stupid Dems do not see a golden opportunity to address the good paying job issues when they talk about savings etc.
To: EternalVigilance
It is grand when we both can agree on something. What I love about America, is that coalitions on various issues are porous. No matter what we believe on some matters, where we disagree and fight each other like hell, we can agree on others, in good spirit. That is what makes this system work.

Its a message to the Middle East's last surviving Ba'athist dictatorship to end oppressing its neighbor and to allow its people to choose their own government. Not a message that will go down well in Damascus tonight - but President Bush is not in a mood to reward tyrants. Its a take no prisoners approach to the ME's kings, emirs and dictators.

Peggy Noonan had a right to her op-ed piece. Problem is that she was on Fox news immediately after the inauguration and she sounded like she greatly admired Bush's speech. The next morning she came out "banging".
Plus, she said there was too much "God" in the speech. Hello. She has a lot of 'splaining to do!
Yes, God does forgive us through Jesus Christ but in order to claim that forgiveness there is "participation" on our part. I haven't seen any "participation" on Peggy's part yet.

ok........now someone has told me why they keep hating her after on speech.....that is all I asked....i'm not trying to change you mind as much as I wonder why after on thing you attacked her.......we all disagree from time to time, even in our families........even a conservative like Newt Gingrich said on FOX the other day that Bush has a terrible environmental policy.....well instead of hating him i listen to him, cause he is not saying it out of hate like a Dem would.......I can agree or disagree with him but not dislike him for it
To: Soul Seeker; Ernest_at_the_Beach
What Democrats don't seem to understand is that the type of SS the President proposes is voluntary. That is to say, one can invest if they want to.

It was not just a one time of getting up on the wrong side of the bed thing. She wrote a second column which was even more of a dare that anyone would criticize what she had said. We here are the only ones to think her small.

Colmes is another moron who knows what he is saying is the exact opposite of what the truth really is.I just don't see how they do it. It must take a lot of work to look at the facts and say they're not true.

I guess you were right that the democrats booed and jeered. Pat Buchanan just mentioned it and denounced them for it.
Pat Buchanan is trying to talk some sense into Chris Matthews, who just won't give up the wild hair notion that the whole emotional exchange between the Iraqi woman and Mrs. Norwood was staged by Bush political operatives. Matthews is really showing his ugly ass tonight, egged on by that idiot Ron Reagan who thought it was staged too.
Buchanan, Meecham, both said they were choked up by the scene. Chris Matthews is really intent on trying to stoke up resentment of President Bush....it's pathetic really. Or maybe he's on this rant because he can't tear apart the speech itself.
Now Matthews is saying he congratulates the President for putting that moment together. See how his devious, biased mind works? He's cowed by Meecham and Buchanan as they put him down for his cynicism, but he still asserts Bush created that moment for poliltical reasons.
The man is a skunk!
