US GI hostage story and photo faked; MSM falls for it--again
Looks like this was a fake, now that we've seen the photo, and kudos are due to A Small Victory, Wizbang and Free Republic for calling it.
It looks like this was a GI Joe-type doll on sale on the internet. Note the face, plus the gun and the fact that you don't see anyone's hands in the photo.
In addition, the Pentagon has verified that no soldiers are missing presently.
Score another one for the new media, as the MSM gets scammed again.

I have a few screen shots I took today, but I left them on the office computer. I'll look tomorrow and see how many still had the pic up after the info came out re:doll.

I can't imagine the terrorists would knowingly post this as a joke. If you make your living by imtimidating and terrorizing people with threats of dire consequences, the last thing you'd want to do is make yourself a laughingstock.
I honestly believe that these guys thought our media would completely buy into this and make us believe it as well in their desperation to flog anything that might harm George Bush. After all, the terrorists watched as Dan Rather pushed crudely forged government memos in an attempt to take him down.
However, when it comes to understanding us and our culture, the terrorists always seem to be about 10 steps behind the prevailing zeitgeist. They sure as hell haven't clued into the blogosphere or FR yet (but to be completely fair, our Dinosaur Media hasn't either).
If I were the Dinosaur Media, I'd be asking just what it says about peoples' opinion of them when a bunch of murdering scumbags with towels on their heads can take pictures of a GI Joe doll, claim they're photos of a hostage, and have the story splashed as the truth on front pages worldwide.
I think they really did kidnap a doll and they really are going to behead it, we need to act quickly!!

good one. Brit just had this on his show and said a toy maker said the hostage looked very much like one of their action figures, Cody. At least FNC got it right (or what I saw).

I found this funny. When my teenage son saw the picture of the doll captured yesterday (before he knew it was a fake) he said that doesn't look real. Then this morning he saw the picture of Kerry holding up the picture and his statements. My son asked, Is that real? What does that say about Kerry and the liberals. Anything is possible from them. LOL!
