A good friend called me a few hours ago terribly upset. Her two sons, both United States Marines, were in Washington DC last night (Saturday) with their dates. They went to the Hawk and Dove, which is a Capitol Hill watering hole.
Now before I go any farther here, understand that I know these two Marines and these are really good kids, hardly the rowdy type -- both went through OCS and are just not the troublemaking types.
At any rate, they were NOT ALLOWED entry into the Hawk and Dove. They were told that the military WAS NOT WELCOME and that especially was true for MARINES.
Is your blood boiling yet???? Mine is. I cannot reveal who these Marines' parents are, but let me tell you, my Freeper brethren, this is a patriotic family who has done much for our nation. (Their mother spends many weekends at Walter Reed with the injured soldiers and even had a house full of them over for Thanksgiving.) I'm telling you, this is an extraordinary family that has given much in service to our country.
So here's the deal. I want this bar to know of our displeasure with their disrespectful behavior toward these two young Marines.
At the very least, I'd like to see a round for these young men on the house and a profuse apology from the owner.

From what I have learned it is a rowdy bar and there are lots of fights-Most of things I have read place blame on the Marines who hang out there. ( I am suspicious of that a bit)Even if that is true- having a no military rule is not right. So- I am still going to call tomorrow and see if I can get anywhere on this story too. I am sure we will all get some more info then.

There is a marine barracks on 8th st (SE) nearby. Trust me, their business is welcome.

Calm down about what? About how this "story" seems fake and how the poster is trying to get people to boter the owner(s) after she heard some gossip? Put yourself in the owners shoes and how would you like it when people start bothering them tomorrow on a supposed RUMOR that someone posted online?

I have said repeatedly I KNOW THESE MARINES. Their mother is a colleague of mine who I work with EVERY DAY.
My interest in this is not free beer. My interest is in making sure that Marines are not treated like this. My brother came home from Vietnam and was horribly treated. Almost every male member of my family has served or is currently serving in the military.
My interest, "stuck_in_new_orleans", goes far beyond beer. it goes to something you apparently know nothing about -- respect.
Now I'm not quite certain why you have decided to attack me on this but I suggest you put down the mint julep, take off the tin foil and back the hell off.
Im on the side that wants the truth. I own a small business and I wouldnt want someone to try to trash my name online and try to get people all over the country to bother me at my work on the whim of a RUMOR

You WERENT there, you are hearing GOSSIP and postiong it as TRUTH when you dont have nay knowledge of what the FACTS were. You are right. Nobody turns down $$$. Its that simple. Plus, I'm not calling these people liars, but I've seen plenty of evidence to the contrary.
