SALEM, Ore. - Two controversial road signs that were put up in Marion County have already been ripped down.
The road signs read, "The American Nazi Party has adopted a two mile stretch of Sunnyview Road" and were put up by Marion County officials one week ago.
The county says they have received a lot of complaints from residents claiming the county is condoning the organization.
However, officials insist the American Nazi Party has a right to free speech, just like everybody else.
Viewer Note:
A sharp eyed KATU viewer noticed that the name of the group was spelled Amerian Nazi Party on the county application Thursday evening.
KATU has since asked Marion County officials whether the signs need to be changed to reflect the spelling on the application. To which they responded, "interesting question, we'll check into that."

Questions: Will they attempt to locate and arrest the person who tore down the sign?
Also, would Portland have the same response regarding 1st Amendment Rights for a group called "Abortion is Murder" that puts up their group name with a picture of an aborted baby? Just wondering.

I hope not. A group that attacks others deserves nothing. And I'm not talking about Islam, this time...

It's not Portland's fault. This is the state of free speech jurisprudence in our country.
And yes, they would undoubtedly have permitted a pro-life sign, for the same reason (although I don't know if they allow anyone to put pictures on their signs).

Question: Who accepted the money for the Nazi's to adopt a highway?

Pardon me for not getting all upset about this. I'm a total free speech head, but I can't get all weepy over the Nazis having their widdle sign torn down. Flame away!

Obviously, I hope not as well. But I suspect the reason we wouldn't see an "Abortion is murder" sign along the highway is because it would be torn down by liberal rage so fast no one would see it.

Who do you expect will flame you? I think most of the nuts who would argue in favor of the nazi sign have been banned from FR.

This is very simple. Let them put their adopt-a-highway signs anywhere they want to. It brings them into the light and the light (sunshine) is always good. If any of them would care to come here and debate it would be good. They would be destroyed.
Let it out into the open. We'll take care of them.

Last I heard, FNC said the signs went missing - ant that the county would replace them, at the party's expense.
Perfect american solution. No government restriction of speech - just a little activism.

Questions: Will they attempt to locate and arrest the person who tore down the sign? Ah yeah - sure dear... we'll get right on that... just as soon as we work on more urgent cases, like what's going on with all these missing socks that have been reported out of dryers all over town.

Two controversial road signs that were put up in Marion County have already been ripped down. I won't shed a tear over it. It's always starting like that, with "innocent" signs....

LOL I dunno, I've had my FR world rocked a bit lately...not feeling particularly welcome sometimes... :)
