Great thread!

Things might not be perfect in Iraq, but most Iraqis are making the best of it, and trying to create a better future.

Great post, Mr. Thorne! I hope GW and the gang are seeing these photos. Doesn't it make you wonder how many of these people had friends and relatives tortured and killed and raped and starved by that madman and his sons? No doubt they never even dreamed such a day would come. Thank you, Lord, for George W. Bush who put the smiles and tears of joy on those Iraqis and our freepers! It's going to be hard to sleep tonight.

No it's not new! The Dims used this technique in the 1960 Presidential Election to get John F. Kennedy into Office. Joe Kennedy enlisted the help of none other than Chicago's Mayor Daly to institute what was called: "Four-Legged Voting" (one could see four legs under the drawn curtains in the voting booths). A polling center assistants would "help" voters in their selections.

LOL - you may find this of interest but this is COMMON practice in Hawaii today! When a friend of mine raised an objection a STAFF ATTORNEY in the Elections office at the capital (Honoulu) told her that "We don't do things the way they do in the rest of the U.S."

What awsome pictures. They are wonderful! When people say the Iraqi people don't care about voting or having freedom I will steer them towards these pictures. When people say the Iraqi people are not grateful to America I will show them these pictures. When Ted '' the beached whale'' Kennedy says we should leave immediatly and this whole effort is a dismal failure I WILL MAIL HIM THESE PICS. GOD bless President Bush!

I like their idea of dipping the index finger in dye, to prevent vote fraud. The Democrats would never allow that to be done here.

LOL. No picture IDs either. Otherwise they can't win.

Bush: U.S. Must Stay in Iraq After Election
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Under pressure to start bringing U.S. troops home from Iraq (news - web sites) after Sunday's election, President Bush (news - web sites) said on Saturday that the U.S. mission must keep going to help the new government get its footing.

"As democracy takes hold in Iraq, America's mission there will continue," Bush said in his weekly radio address. "Our military forces, diplomats and civilian personnel will help the newly elected government of Iraq establish security and train Iraqi military police and other forces."

Hours after he spoke, a rocket hit the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad's heavily secured Green Zone, killing two Americans and wounding four.

White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan said Bush was told about the attack right after it happened and she reiterated his message that the U.S. mission in Iraq would continue.

While calling Sunday's election a "turning point" in Iraq's history and a milestone in the war on terror, Bush warned it would not bring a halt to violence there.

"Terrorist violence will not end with the election," he said.

The president is under growing pressure at home to show signs of progress in Iraq, with the U.S. death toll having surpassed 1,400 and members of Congress increasingly uneasy about the costs in blood and money.

Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy (news, bio, voting record), a critic of Bush's Iraq policy, said on Thursday that the United States should start to withdraw militarily and politically from Iraq and aim to pull out all troops as early as possible next year.

At least 12,000 U.S. troops should leave at once to send a signal about U.S. intentions to "ease the pervasive sense of occupation," Kennedy said.

RESISTED TIMETABLE

Bush has resisted setting a timetable for a U.S. troop withdrawal, but in a news conference on Wednesday, he seemed to suggest that by the end of the year the mission to train and equip Iraqi forces to protect themselves could be complete.

Bush and his government have been lowering their expectations for the turnout in Sunday's vote due to the violence, saying that the fact they are voting is a success in itself.

U.S. officials planned to closely watch the voting process on Sunday, with the first reaction expected to come from Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) in a round of television appearances.

"In the face of assassination, brutal violence and calculated intimidation, Iraqis continue to prepare for the elections and to campaign for their candidates," Bush said.

Bush quoted the al Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, for a recent statement in which the Jordanian militant said "we have declared a fierce war against this evil principle."

"Yet in the fact of this intimidation, the Iraqi people are standing firm. Tomorrow's elections will happen because of their courage and determination," he said.

Bush's original mission in Iraq was to rid the country of weapons of mass destruction, but after no weapons turned up, he emphasized the priority of advancing democracy to Iraq.

He noted that over the past year successful elections have been held in Afghanistan (news - web sites), Malaysia, Indonesia, Georgia, Ukraine and the Palestinian territories.

"Tomorrow's election will add to the momentum of democracy," he said.

I wish we did this for our elections; But, the democrats would complain that it was "suppressing" their illegal voting.

Or somehow racist. Then again, the Dims might like that 'blue' thing the Iraqi voters have going on.

Everything is conspiring today to make me cry my eyes out.

I want to mention Marine Ben Carman of Jefferson, Iowa, who gave his life for his country and to give the Iraqi people a shot at freedom, too.

I gratefully salute him and the others who have fallen, along with their families.

And to all the wounded who will bear the scars of battle for the rest of your days:

To me, those scars are of the same kind as the eternal scars my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ carry in His Hands and in His side...
