Nashville, Tennessee..
Wow!
Go back, click the link, and turn up the speakers.
You may want to get a hanky.
I went by the New Carrollton, Maryland site yesterday. It is the only Iraqi polling place on the east coast. Talked to a gentleman from Northern Virginia of late and Bagdad earlier. He said it was good and not good. "It is good to vote; it is not good to have your country invaded." That struck me in a different way from earlier commentary. He seemed appreciative of the election but he still hurt from the war. He and his wife posed for a pic.
Iraqi Americans Nahrain Shabilla, 21, left, and her aunt Iffat Garmo, from El Cajon, Calif., celebrate after registering to vote Tuesday...

Expatriate Iraqis vote in Southland - El Toro hosts only Western U.S. polling site
"...They had to drive for six hours and have their car searched twice at security checkpoints, but the elderly father and his grown son didn't seem to mind Friday as they cast ballots for Iraq's new assembly, an election that neither man ever expected in their lifetimes.
"I cannot express it in words. It is an exhilaration for me," said Eshoo Bahribeh, 84 ..."
"...Leo Bahribeh, 46, who drove with his father from their home in Redwood City, Calif., said they never even considered sitting out on a chance to help choose the 275-member assembly that will draft Iraq's new constitution." "If we don't vote, who else would come to define the future of Iraq? It's very important to take this step toward democracy..."
"...Many said they were voting with a sense of pride in their heritage and optimism about the future..."
"...It's beautiful, a dream come true," said Sami al Jabiri, 36, who drove from Phoenix with his wife and two young children to cast his vote. "The most beautiful words in the English language can't describe my feelings today..."
"...Sargon Dedesho, who led a caravan of Iraqi Christians from Modesto, Calif ...said he planned to return today with some 400 voters..."
For those around the world with courage enough to see, that photograph says it ALL !
I could swear this is what a quagmire looks like....where were these people during the election? Thank God for W and our troops.
Thanks, but you pinged me to my post.Ha!
Godspeed, Iraq.
I don't think that's possible.
Thanks for posting, gopwins04!
And facedown, your comment "What a terrific thread. It's hard to understand, at first, why they're all crying. And then you think about the bones in the desert..." reminded me of this:
The Mesopotamian - Friday, November 28, 2003
~snip~Yes GWB, though the visit was brief, it was very meaningful. We know that you have come, not as the President of an invading nation, but as the friend who wishes to renew commitment to our people, and as long as your intentions are what you have repeatedly said (and we don't doubt your sincerity), the land and the hearts welcome you.
It gives us pain that the visit is so short and that the masses cannot in the present circumstances come out to give you the welcome that you deserve, but the day will come, the day will come (God's Willing). Yes the day will come when the millions will come out to welcome the best friend that the Mesopotamian people have ever had, and he will be amongst the most devoted and allied people that America will ever have.
The bones in the mass graves salute you, Avenger of the Bones.
Hail, Friend and Ally, Hail, Sheikh of Sheikhs, GWB; Descendant of the Noble Ancient Celt.
Alaa
I look forward to his posts after the election!

The BBC and Fat Teddy are miserable, horrified, infuriated
You are so right - I was listening to the BBC today and they even interviewed George Soros!! They described him as a 'man who is devoted to spreading democracy around the world'. Honestly, these MSM should all be renamed Isvestia (for those of you too young to know, Isvestia was the Soviet Union's news source and was universally considered to be a joke). I've probably mispelled stuff, for which I apologize. Way to go Iraq!
Jan. 27: Iraqi youngsters display an election pamphlet, as a British soldier on patrol in the southern Iraqi city of Basra, looks on [AP].
I betcha God knows!
There was a beautiful picture in today's Washington Times of a group of Americans on their knees praying in front of the Iraqi embassy here in DC for a peaceful election.
I'm a posting moron and don't know if that picture was in their electronic edition - -but it's a keeper.....
awesome pics!!!!
I dont know if its my screen, reading glasses or allergies..but my eyes are so watery:) I am very proud of our military and our president.
PS: I like their idea of dipping the index finger in dye, to prevent vote fraud. The Democrats would never allow that to be done here.
