Georgia Flag Vote update
Southern Heritage PAC ^ | Jan 25 | SHPAC

Posted on 01/27/2005 10:15:33 AM PST by DixieOklahoma

Support Georgia's right to have a REAL vote on their state flag... The only vote issued did not include the flag that sparked all the controversay in the first place!.

In addition, only 6% of registered voters showed up at the polls, BECAUSE the real Georgia state flag wasn't included in the referendum!!

There is currently a bill that has just been filed with the Georgia State House to allow the real flag to be included in a statewide vote, as well as the current flag.

No matter your feeling on the flag personally... There SHOULD BE a vote on this state flag. After all it is the people of the state of georgia that the flag represents! Right is right, and the people should have a vote on their stolen state flag.

RINO governor (the liar) Perdue, who will be defeated in his re election attempt in 2006, has vowed that this bill will be killed in comittee.

Lets see that that doesn't happen:

That guy is not a Georgian whether he owns property, pays Georgia taxes, and votes in Georgia. He remains a Chicagoan.

Well, that's a lousy analogy. He probably still votes in Chicago, too.

Just catching up from a weekend in the mountains.

For the record, I voted against the hope scholarship, but I'm happy to let the ignorant rednecks pay the voluntary tax on stupidity if they want to. I've never paid it, and I never will.

I am a Conservative from day one, and my opinion on the flag issue confirms it. As a Conservative, I believe in the rule of law, in accordance with our Constitution. The current flag, and the previous flag for that matter, were legally adopted by a bill passed by the legislature, made up of duly elected legislators, in a manner consistent with the requirements of our state Constitution. That Constitution does not make a provision for a binding statewide referendum, and any attempt to have one would require a constitutional amendment.

I didn't like the "Barnes flag", and I was happy to see Barnes defeated. I'm fine with the current flag, but even if I wasn't, it was voted on by the legislature and is the legal flag of Georgia. As far as I'm concerned, however, it makes no difference to me if we don't have a flag. It serves no real purpose. I would rather see our legislators spend their time debating issues that mean something to my children.

I am a Southerner and proud of it. That being said, my Southern heritage involves a lot more than the four years between 1861 and 1864. I am proud of my ancestry, and I resent the notion that a bunch of redneck goobers waving flags and "Sonny lied" signs think they represent that heritage. I'll take care of my own heritage, thank you. Go get yourselves a life.

Well, you were being so nice, until the get yourself a life comment.

First, if you are a good Georgian and a good Southerner, I question your use of the pejorative term redneck. While I think people can call themselves that in a funny way or as a matter of pride, but its use as a term of derision by others is out of line. It is something a Yankee would use. Shame on you.

Just because the legislature voted on it does not make it right. The legislature voted for an income tax, but that doesn't make it right. And if you are a conservative, you oppose it even though the "legislature has spoken."

But don't pull that the legislature has spoken crap. That is Sonny's line. You know good and well that had Sonny insisted on a flag vote that contained the '56 flag he would have gotten one. He gave the OK to leave it off and hoped it would blow over. It hasn't. Face it, when faced down by the Black Caucus, Atlanta Chamber, Big Corporate Atlanta, and the PC goons, Sonny blinked.

What is wrong with "redneck goobers" (real mature) waving flags and Sonny lied signs? Sonny did lie. Do you have a problem with people telling the truth?

I wasn't trying to be nice.

I'll decide if I'm a "good Georgian and a good Southerner". If you fit the stereotype of a Redneck, then you might as well carry the name. From what I've seen of the flag waving crowd, most of them do.

As far as the legislature having spoken, it's the truth, like it or not. I heard what Sonny promised, and he delivered. If you heard him promise anything else, and you believed it, you are an idiot. Anyone with any knowledge of how the legislature works will know that the Governor cannot write legislation. I am also aware that a newly elected Republican governor, the first in 130 years, would have a difficult time forcing anything from a Democrat controlled House of Representatives with a new Speaker who wants to cause as much political damage as he can for the new Governor. I know this is what happened because that House Speaker, Terry Coleman, is the Representative for my House district. I hate to tell you this, but by opposing Sonny for re-election, you are playing into his plans.

When I see the flag wavers at their rallies, like the ones depicted in the pictures at the beginning of this thread, all I can think of is "Goobers on parade". I could be nice and not say it, or I could be honest and let you know what people think of you. I prefer honesty. It's up to you how you deal with it.

It doesn't really matter. Most of the people squawking about how we need to vote on the flag, including Red and Okie, can't vote in Georgia anyhow.

They're just playing carpetbagger and trying to tell us what we ought to do.

Well exactly what makes someone a "goober" or a "redneck?" Does the pastor of the church you are a deacon at, know you are calling people names? I suspect many good Christians who go to conservative Bible believing churches would be considered "rednecks" by atheistic, Yanks. You OK with that?

But if having insults hurled at me by fellow Southerners who ought to be on my side is the price I have to pay for fighting the good fight, then so be it.

I admit Sonny was coy about the flag issue when he ran. Frustratingly so. But when he figured out the issue had traction, he became more explicit about giving the people a vote. Personally, I would have preferred if he had just sacked up and said he wanted to reinstate the '56 flag, but he was too cowardly to do that. Shades of things to come. But you are the "idiot" if you believe everyone did not understand that to mean a vote on the '56 flag v. the Barnes rag. The current flag didn't even exist during the campaign. The enemy sure knew what he had promised. That is why they went ape and began pitching a fit and threatening boycotts, etc. right away. Your defense of Sonny breaks down because both houses passed flag resolutions that included the '56 flag by large margins. It was not until reconciliation of the bill, that the current flag was added. If Sonny wanted the vote to include the '56 flag he could have vetoed the compromise bill which he should have.

You can try and sooth your conscious all you want that Sonny did the best he could or whatever, but the facts are so clear it is not disputable. The legislature and Sonny wimped out under pressure from the forces I have previously listed. If you are OK with that sort of craven cowardice, then so be it. But leave those of us who aren't alone so we can get about the business of restoring our Republic. A restoration that you will benefit from. Perhaps to occupy your time until then you could lick the hand and kiss the feet of your Yankee Masters.

You are quite right, and I am dead wrong. Please forgive me for my ignorance.

Since I'm obviously too stupid to make decisions for myself, I need your advice. Since I obviously shouldn't vote for Sonny Perdue, who should I vote for?

A carpet bagger is from the North. I am not. Hence, I can not be a carpet bagger.

The issue of my residence is a side track. Plus, it is idiotic to state that OD isn't entitled to an opinion. He started this thread.

Why not address my arguments.

Otherwise you could join deacon licking the hand and kissing the feet of your Yankee Masters. Good little Southerner! Keep engaging in Yankee group think. Good little Southerner!

Well since you asked, whoever the Southern Party or Constitution Party fields as a candidate, if they can get past the obnoxiously high ballot access requirements in Georgia. If they can not field a candidate and no pro-flag candidate runs in the Republican primary, then you should not vote for gov at all.

I never said you were "stupid," just docile.

Learn to read. I didn't say you were one, I said you wanted to act like one.

Besides, the original carpetbaggers were from the north, but the meaning has now been expanded to mean any outsider. You are not a Georgia resident, but you want to be able to influence Georgia politics. Hence, you meet the definition of carpetbagger.

Otherwise you could join deacon licking the hand and kissing the feet of your Yankee Masters. Good little Southerner! Keep engaging in Yankee group think. Good little Southerner!

Are childish taunts necessary to make your point, or is that the best argument you can muster?

Oh please. Dixie Okie and I and the other flag defenders have been the subject of extensive taunts and name calling. And much to the shame of the taunters, this is supposed to be a conservative website. I would expect this sort of trash on the moveon.org site, not a conservative site.

Oh, cry me a river!

You two have been far and away the rudest posters on the thread. Okie even had a post pulled for asking me about the lockbox I kept my testicles in - besides the crudeness of it all, apparently he doesn't know that women don't have testicles.

Both of you have obviously missed one of the most important parts of the Southern heritage you claim to revere - namely, manners and graciousness.

No you should help elect a real conservative candidate from the Southern or Constitution Party. If you claim they can't get elected, it is only because of too many people like you. Who can never bring themselves to admit that they have been had by the Republicans and their conservative rhetoric but utter lack of follow through. When exactly are you going to be willing to draw a line in the sand. To say enough is enough. To stop getting lead around by the nose by phony conservatives. That is the difference between you and me. I figured out I had been had and drew that line in the sand a few election cycles ago. You are still foolishly hoping the Republicans are actually going to act like conservatives. Tell me when you come around. I'm sure we will welcome you with open arms. That is why the flag issue is such a good litmus test. A good indication of unwillingness to keep taking it on the chin.

I beg your pardon. Show me one post where I called another poster a name. I have been the one pointing out when others have used derogatory anti-southern slurs or made cracks about trailer parks. I have stated that your position is motivated in part by cowardice or Yankee indoctrination, and I have called Sonny a liar and a coward, because I believe those things to be true. But I have called no poster a name. If I have, it was done in the heat of the moment, show me and I will apologize.

I believe you are mistaking stridency and firmness of opinion for rudeness. It is not. This whole forum needs more strident real conservatives.

If they can't, they can't get elected either. That's a fact, learn to live with it. The Libertarians give the same answer, but they aren't going to get elected Governor either.
You have two choices, Repubican or Democrat. End of story. Of course, since you can't vote here, and you don't have to live with the consequences, it doesn't mean much to you anyway. I live here, and my kids live here, and I'm concerned about the future of this state. Unless you have a better candidate, Sonny Perdue is the choice for me.

I honestly think sonny is hard at work and has employees on this site jump any thread related to the GA flag. He is attempting to scare us out of making an issue of this..

I have faith in the good people of GA without access to the internet. Or those with access who aren't members of this site.

Just do what i'm doing and make a donation in their name to the southern party or the georgia heritage coalition. Amelia.. do you work for the GA state government in any way?
