Just catching up from a weekend in the mountains.

For the record, I voted against the hope scholarship, but I'm happy to let the ignorant rednecks pay the voluntary tax on stupidity if they want to. I've never paid it, and I never will.

I am a Conservative from day one, and my opinion on the flag issue confirms it. As a Conservative, I believe in the rule of law, in accordance with our Constitution. The current flag, and the previous flag for that matter, were legally adopted by a bill passed by the legislature, made up of duly elected legislators, in a manner consistent with the requirements of our state Constitution. That Constitution does not make a provision for a binding statewide referendum, and any attempt to have one would require a constitutional amendment.

I didn't like the "Barnes flag", and I was happy to see Barnes defeated. I'm fine with the current flag, but even if I wasn't, it was voted on by the legislature and is the legal flag of Georgia. As far as I'm concerned, however, it makes no difference to me if we don't have a flag. It serves no real purpose. I would rather see our legislators spend their time debating issues that mean something to my children.

I am a Southerner and proud of it. That being said, my Southern heritage involves a lot more than the four years between 1861 and 1864. I am proud of my ancestry, and I resent the notion that a bunch of redneck goobers waving flags and "Sonny lied" signs think they represent that heritage. I'll take care of my own heritage, thank you. Go get yourselves a life.

Well, you were being so nice, until the get yourself a life comment.

First, if you are a good Georgian and a good Southerner, I question your use of the pejorative term redneck. While I think people can call themselves that in a funny way or as a matter of pride, but its use as a term of derision by others is out of line. It is something a Yankee would use. Shame on you.

Just because the legislature voted on it does not make it right. The legislature voted for an income tax, but that doesn't make it right. And if you are a conservative, you oppose it even though the "legislature has spoken."

But don't pull that the legislature has spoken crap. That is Sonny's line. You know good and well that had Sonny insisted on a flag vote that contained the '56 flag he would have gotten one. He gave the OK to leave it off and hoped it would blow over. It hasn't. Face it, when faced down by the Black Caucus, Atlanta Chamber, Big Corporate Atlanta, and the PC goons, Sonny blinked.

What is wrong with "redneck goobers" (real mature) waving flags and Sonny lied signs? Sonny did lie. Do you have a problem with people telling the truth?
