Support Georgia's right to have a REAL vote on their state flag... The only vote issued did not include the flag that sparked all the controversay in the first place!.
In addition, only 6% of registered voters showed up at the polls, BECAUSE the real Georgia state flag wasn't included in the referendum!!
There is currently a bill that has just been filed with the Georgia State House to allow the real flag to be included in a statewide vote, as well as the current flag.
No matter your feeling on the flag personally... There SHOULD BE a vote on this state flag. After all it is the people of the state of georgia that the flag represents! Right is right, and the people should have a vote on their stolen state flag.
RINO governor (the liar) Perdue, who will be defeated in his re election attempt in 2006, has vowed that this bill will be killed in comittee.
Lets see that that doesn't happen:

Give it a rest already! You lost. Sonny did not lie.
Personally, I liked the look of the '56 flag. It had no "heritage" value to me, but I liked it. But your deafening silence when the KKK embraced the CBF as it's flag allowed the CBF to stand for hate and racism. Perhaps if you fought a little harder for it then, there wouldnt be an issue today.
The Barnes rag was a PC piece of trash. And it didn't solve the problem because the CBF was still there. The hypersensitive race baiters may have gone along with the Barnes rag for now, but I guaruntee they would have come back to get that changed too, because it was still there.
What you got in the new flag is the best of both worlds, but I think both sides are too stupid to even know it. You want to celebrate your "heritage" and/or honor the Confederate soldiers?? What better way than a flag VERY remenicient of the Confederacy's Stars and Bars?? You get your heritage flag without the stigma of racism attached to the CBF, and they get a flag without the CBF.
And, as has been stated a few times here already, there was no statewide vote in '56, so why do you think you are owed one now? The one we had was one too many. So go ahead and give it your best shot to defeat Sonny in '96. I think you are going to be rather disapointed on election day when he is reelected.
Oh, and there is no law that prevents you from flying the CBF on your property, your house, your pick-up truck, your hat, your t-shirt, your belt buckle, or where ever else you can think of to stick it. So fly it to your hearts content and stop trying to force everyone else to accept it.

Ohh you seriously don't know? well it is the flag that liberals would have the most trouble with. look at all the recent flags and tell me which flag that the PC gestapo would have the most trouble with.
That is the 'real flag' sonny promised a vote on.
if you still don't know it is the one with 1/3 taken up by a confederate battle flag.

why were you silent when the KKK used the american flag? heck in order not to offend anyone can we just agree that the only flag flown in the united states should be a white flag of surrender so nobody is offended.
give it a rest sonny It is too late to stop us now.

If you are too ignorant to read the previous 180 posts where I clearly stated I know the historical significance of the current flag, then I am too ignorant to debate you.
I am much more intelligent than you on this issue (and probably a wealth of others also), trust me.

I'm not trying to force anybody to accept anything.. If the majority of Georgians vote against the flag then GREAT for them!! But you don't seem to trust their judgement or you'd give them a vote.
Actually, if you were familure with the DU PONTE five, you would realize that many people were fired for having the CBF on their truck while at work.
In the most recent case of MS. DUTY, from Kentucky, she was kicked out of prom because her dress had the CBF on it.
In missouri former 1 term governor holden was kicked out of office in the democratic primary one of the main reasons was because he removed 2 CBF from a confederate cemetary, the MISSOURI LEAUGE OF THE SOUTH started a dumb holden campaign and he was booted.
The southern alliance is much more powerfull than you want to give them credit for, look at what we did to king roy, david beasley, and gov. holden. underestimate them at your own expense.

Only to the Flagers. Most people in Georgia do not care about this issue. They are more concerned with the current war on terror, taxes, property rights, and education.

The horse is dead, and it's time to stop beating it.You said it better than I could have.

We wish to hell that people who don't even live in our state would quit agitating and trying to stir up controversy where there is none! Hear! Hear!

WE are Georgians, but YOU don't care what WE think.
WE know the current flag honors our Confederate heritage without that implied "in your face!" to our black friends, relatives, and coworkers.
Why don't YOU go worry about YOUR state, and let US worry about OURS?

Georgia State Flags
Before 1879
1879-1902
1902-1906
1906-1920
1920-1956
1956-2001
2001-2003
Since 2003
I know, I know, everyone has a special favorite and not everyone can be pleased all the time.
BUT, what's really special about Georgia is that, if you don't happen to like the current one, you usually don't have to wait too long before a new one comes along that you might like better!! ;-)

Trust me... I represent many Georgians on this forum who are not on the internet. You probably represent Atlanta.
Besides that, most of the haters are not Georgians anyway. you don't like the flag? vote against it. I do have kin in Georgia also.
look sweetie just because you hate your own state doesn't mean you should take it out on me.
It is too late for sonny to stop what is going to happen in 06 and I will contribute more money because of your whining to the southern heritage PAC. Next time you whine the donation will go to the Georgia Heritage Coalition. and if you are still whining then, it will go to the southern party of Georgia. I will just start over from there and donate to the PAC again..
Can I please have your first and last name? I'd like the donation to be in your name, and on your behalf.

Well Juana, thanks for at least a civil post. For the record, I am not a Rothbardian, anarcho-capitalist, but I would much prefer that to tyranny. I do not want to totally dismantle the government, just cut it to a mere fraction of its current size. Locking up real criminals, but not much else.
X, there is almost no debate that an independent South would be freer. Less taxes, less services, less gun control, hopefully less baby killing, etc. Do you dispute that? I think we had the local v. centralized debate on another thread. No system is immune from tyranny. In fact, tyranny is the natural state that things go to, due to man's fallen nature. Freedom, despite the rhetoric of the current administration, is not the natural state. It is the state that requires the most effort to sustain. One weapon, one extremely important weapon, in that fight is the ability to unilaterally leave a political union. The denial of that right is the true invitation to tyranny.
Also, for the record, I was born in Tennessee, moved to Georgia at 6 months, and except for 1 year in Florida (1st grade) I grew up in Georgia. I graduated from UGA and Emory University. Due to my employer, I do not currently reside in Georgia, but I consider it home. I am probably moving back this summer. I think I am entitled to comment on the flag. I also welcome Dixie Oklahoma's comments, since he is a fellow Southerner. I'm not particularly interested in what Yankees have to say.
I use the rhetoric of backbones, and testosterone, and coward and such as a way to provoke. I believe there are some well meaning Georgians, who agree with you. I just think they are wrong. And not only are they wrong, but they are tragically wrong. Wrong in a way that I think undermines any hope we have of restoring our system.
Your position indicates that you accept as legitimate objections to the flag. But the objections to the Battle Flag are relatively recent and track perfectly with PC efforts at mind control. For example, the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard, sported a battle flag, the show was very popular, and no one said a word. Now they are making a movie of the DOH and what to do with the flag is a big issue. Why the change? Why isn't the Flag less "offensive" today since we are farther from the event? Answer is PC attempts to stamp out all forms of descent from the reigning orthodoxy. The South has always represented the biggest obstacle (region wise) to their grand design. The fighting Rebel spirit that animated secession, has frustrated all their efforts at Reconstruction. (Unfortunately immigration both foreign and Yankee [Wait, that is the same thing.] and that great homogenizer, the media, is succeeding where other efforts have failed. It is doing what Sherman never could.) I will go to my grave fighting that. That is why the flag issue is HUGELY important despite the constant drum beat to move on to "more important issues." It is a line in the sand. A decisive moment. Is Georgia going to stand up and fight the thought police or are we going to give in. Not just give in but accept as correct, their version of events. I pray not. But in this battle, I have to say that regardless of how much you protest that you love the South, that you are real Southerners, you are on the wrong side. I would love to convert you. If I can't , I will have to oppose you. Modern conservatism is plagued by the same problem. People who don't want to make waves. People who are all too willing to give up when they think the battle is over. News flash. We ain't going to restore anything if people are just willing to give up and move on. We must awake that fighting spirit, not the spirit of appeasement, and take the battle to the enemy. So far they are kicking our but and I think people with your attitude are part of the problem.
Also, their is no evidence that this issue is over or that people no longer care about it. In fact if you measure an issue not just by broadness of support, but by how strongly people feel about it, this is a big issue and will be a big issue in the '06 governors race.

Atually, I currently reside overseas. Does that make me a European? I think not. I am a Georgian because that is where my heart and mind reside even though my body is temporarily away. Do you deny I am a Georgian?
To: eddie willers
Do you live in or near Atlanta? It is a big issue in some of the more conservative suburbs and definitely outside the Atlanta area. And you will see that it is in '06. If not, then I feel sad that my fellow Georgians are following the sheepish suggestions of folks like you.
Perhaps maybe someone could actually address the substance of my post.

Do you deny I am a Georgian?No...just an uninformed one if you think that the flag is a big issue outside of trailer parks.
It is NO bow to the PC crowd.
In fact....we kinda like the fact that the current flag is more representative of the Confederacy than the Battle Flag ever was.
In fact....we grin because... we were thrown into the briarpatch.
And if you don't know what that means...then you ain't no Georgian.
