It will be interesting to see what will happen if they do launch against Israel. In the Bible (I forget which book and chapter) there is a part where it says that Israel will be protected from a massive attack. All of the enemy's weapons of war will be destroyed without harming anyone in Israel. Israel will use resources from the attack as an energy source, and the enemy dead will be picked clean by birds or be buried in a common grave.

This article details the failure of the current EU negotiations in this regard. Rafsanjani is not doing either his team or the EU team any favors in rubbing their noses in the futility of negotiations on this issue. In fact, were this sort of thing not resolutely ignored by its adherents it would constitute a thorough and very proper humiliation for the entire "multilateral" approach to international relations and a vindication of Bushian "unilateralism."

That wasn't, obviously, Rafsanjani's intention here. But as senior as he is in the Islamic wing of Iranian government, he really has no business dropping a foreign policy brick of this magnitude.

I read one thing between the lines here - if he actually had a bomb at this point he wouldn't be talking like this. The boy is playing poker at the wrong table, IMHO.

In a later quote, Rafsanjani still talks of retaliation, not initiation of force:

Note the year of his comments: 2001. Also note that Rafsanjani didn't threaten to initiate a nuclear attack.
