TODAY’S donation pushes Bill Gates into an even more exalted position as the world’s biggest philanthropist.
The Gates foundation, which is worth $30 billion, (£17billion), is now the largest charity to have been created by a single benefactor or private company by a factor of three, following a previous $3 billion gift from its founder last July. Mr Gates has stated that he intends to give away 90 per cent of his fortune, which is currently valued at about $50 billion.



The causes to which he has channelled his wealth — global health inequalities, education programmes, public libraries and projects around his home town of Seattle — have changed dramatically because of his contributions.

To date, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation has been the largest recipient of his charity. His pledge today follows an initial $750 million grant in 1999, which was used to help to set up the organisation to support research and improve access to vaccines.

As well as saving an estimated 670,000 lives through vaccines, it has also helped to facilitate major breakthroughs on vaccines for diseases such as malaria, rotavirus and meningitis.

Rubbish.
You own link of his $57 million to the UN stated the money was for AIDS in Africa.
Even if some of that money leaked into abortion programs, it will have accounted for far, far less than 1% of UN funding.
How do you then attribute your "millions" of aborted fuses to Gates?

Please let me see real facts and figures.
Detailed breakdown of exactly what percentage of Gates money is actually ending up being used for abortions, and what percentage of the money being used for abortions in Africa is from Gates.

Somebody needs to go back to Capitalism 101.

Most Economics courses include sections on network effects, barriers to entry, and monopoly/monopsony. Sometimes companies rise to the top for reasons other than innovation or excellence in production. Once they're up there, they can be very hard to dislodge by ordinary capitalist means.

It's wonderful that Bill Gates is donating his money to good causes, but let's not kid ourselves about the significant damage his company has done to the overall American economy by diverting large amounts of money into shoddy products and unnecessary upgrades that people could not "opt out" of if they wanted to continue working with other people and companies in America.

Again, I admire Bill Gates for his charity work, but looking at it in isolation from what damage he's done to all of us to get to where he is now is not defensible.

Those are all red herring arguments and not the point. The point is, Gates has apparently supported efforts to bring health care, vaccines and AIDS prevention to Africa. You are not acknowledging the actual priorities there. I don't think they see abortion as the main goal, and you see nothing but abortions everywhere, failing to acknowledge the other needs they are fulfilling.

Apart from the old debate about open source systems, Bill Gates was shamed into even thinking about philahthropy. Yes, it is our money. Yes, I feel good about where a lot of it is going.

But I also recognize that it is his relationship with wife, Melissa coupled with the stinging press of the late 90's that was probably the catalyst for his giving. It is after all The Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation.

Nor do most countries of the EU or Japan .
The police in this country do not arrest anyone for murder when they carry out an abortion.

I grew up in Africa, and abortion was common long before Microsoft was even founded when I was growing up, and as far as I know, not even a single person that I know, who had an abortion, got their abortion paid for by any foreigner.
