And dont come crying to me about the 9/11 nominees! I just post em as they are reported.
"Sideways" is overrated. It was OK. It's like every other movie on the Independent Film Channel. "Garden State " is in the same genre and it was more enjoyable. "Sideways" suffers from a recurring problem which is symptomatic of most films today: overlong. A good 15 minutes could have been cut and it would have served the picture. Wait till it hits cable.
They were saying that about "A Beautiful Mind" the very next day!
'Passion' will have a tough scrap against 'House of Flying Daggers' and 'Phantom' in cineamtography category..here's hoping it will win!
It was NOT ELIGIBLE for best foreign Film. Read the thread.
That's a silly and irrelevant comparison.
The fact that it got the nominations it did is very pleasing. Remember Gibson has on directing and producing Oscars before for Braveheart.
Moore wanted F9/11 to get best picture, so he showed it on TV. That is an automatic disqualification to be a documentry. For Moore it was Best Picture or nothing. He got nothing.
I'm surprised so many Freepers are bad mouthing this year's Oscar nominees. I saw "The Aviator" and thought it was quite good. Leo DeCaprio did a fantastic job of portraying Howard Hughes, as the flawed, but brillant, daring individual that he was. I was taken back that Martin Scorcese and Harvey Weinstein, both butt licking Democrats, showed the endurance and success of the individual against the state and overwhelming political power. Maybe DeCaprio, Scorcese and Weinstein get it, but still want to remain in the "liberal Democrat" closet. "Aviator" reminded me of Ayn Rands "Atlas Shrugged". Unfortunately the younger folks, who did not know Howard Hughes, Juan Trippe, Senator Brewster, and the community company (Pan Am) will not be able to fully grasp Hughes and Trippe's greatness and foresight. It truly was a battle of titans, not government bureaucrats.
All the other flicks, "Million Dollar Baby", "Sideways", "Ray" are films about the power of the individual to succeed or survive. No collectivism or Democrat BS to be found here. The individual reigns supreme in all these films. I want to see all of them. Jamie Foxx was outstanding as Ray Charles, and it doesn't get any better than Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Hilary Swank in "Million Dollar Baby". I might add for Freepers that like Charles Krauthammer, he stated on Brit Hume's show that the movie "Sideways" may have been the best picture he has ever seen. As for Johnny Depp, I know his politics are a bit odd, but he did a magnificent job as the eccentric, outrageous, individualist Captain Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl" The likes of Brad Pitt, Jennifer Anniston, George Clooney, etc. don't belong in the same world as these folks.
I might add that I am sorry that Mel Gibson, and his "Passion of the Christ" is not among the honorees. I went to see the movie the first day in release and found it overwhelming and personally moving. My wife and I had just lost our thirty-seven year old daughter to breast cancer, and this movie helped me cope with that loss through the power and majesty of Jesus Christ and our Lord almighty. It is really a shame that the fathers and leaders of present day Hollywood are so taken in by their bias, that they cannot see the magnificence of the Lord, whether the Lord is Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc. I guess that's what happens when the Kings and Queens of Hollywood believe they are Gods. That's what happens when you are secular and liberal to the bone. I feel sad for them, for they cannot grasp the true greatness of life and mortality.
Freepers are always down on anything the American film industry does it seems. Even if its not the American film industry (Golden Globes, Razzies).
Big Fat Moore...the rats think he's one of the main reasons they lost the presidential election...they don't like a guy who looks like him to represent them. So it's not surprising they've shut him out. They're all a bunch of scumbags.
And that makes you an authority on the Oscars?
Mercy killing of crippled people because they are seen as useless appeals to you?
Well more like assisted suicide. Other then that it was very overpraised because Eastwood is such an icon.
