Dennis Hopper should be hopping mad, some Hollywood actors said this week.
Hopper, who organized The Creative Coalition's Ball after the Ball Thursday night as part of the activities surrounding President Bush's inauguration, apparently got a surprise phone call from the Presidential Inaugural Committee Wednesday night - telling him not to come to his own party.
"I feel terrible that the White House inaugural committee that invited Dennis decided to disinvite him," "Sopranos" actor Joe Pantoliano told reporters at the event, where the entertainment - aside from mingling with some of Tinseltown's stars - was singer Macy Gray.
Hopper reportedly was not given an explanation for the insult. A call to the PIC had not been returned by press time.
Thursday's ball at the Reagan Building in Washington featured names such as Pantoliano - the group's co-director - along with actor and director Tony Goldwyn, Mario Van Peebles, Joe Piscopo, Matthew Modine and other actors. Various politicos like Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., also attended.
But many were sorry about the absence of Hopper, who was the organizer and chair of the event and who personally wrote letters to and called the evening's headliners to invite them.
"I was very disappointed. I was told he was all of a sudden disinvited by the Inaugural Committee ... but he's with us in spirit," Goldwyn, who played the dark character Carl Bruner in the 1990 smash-hit "Ghost," and more recently co-starred in "The Last Samurai," told reporters on the red carpet Thursday.
Hopper, a Hollywood icon and long-time actor, director and producer who has starred in films such as "Speed," "Easy Rider" and "Apocalypse Now," is a hard-core supporter of Bush, although his wife did partake in fund-raising activities for Sen. John Kerry, Bush's Democratic challenger in the 2004 presidential election.

I'm not buying any of this Hopper stuff until I see some facts.
My first thought is the Hillary machine is already cranking up. Trying to break apart "moral America" with unsupported stories like this.

I can vouch for that, folks - Wardaddy is a grand host despite being really hard to look at.
Just kidding, big dude. The Republicans do need to work on their "party of non-inclusiveness" reputation. While this story concerning Hopper may not be true we've heard too may along similar lines. All would be forgiven if they'd invite Ozzy and got W to do a song with him.

I think it was his wife and not him making donations to the sKerry campaign. Mixed marriage! He was adamant in the interview I saw that he was a staunch Bush supporter.
This is getting a little comical. There's a mountain of stuff on the Internet from very reliable sources proving Hopper supports Bush, and one single quote from some leftist propaganda web site saying Hopper donated $50K to Kerry.
Yet, some people refuse to believe he's a Republican because in their mind, he just can't be, and that's that.
That movie definately pushed his "creep factor" up several notches, but if you would like to take a chance on a Dennis Hopper movie that is a "feel good" type, try to rent a copy of one with him and Kiefer Sutherland called "Flashback". I used to manage a video store years ago and this was my never-fail fallback recommendation for someone who had seen all the new releases and couldn't find anything to watch on their own. I offered them a free rental the next time if they didn't like it. Never had to give out the free rental.
Hopper plays a 60's radical protester who has been hiding from the FBI for twenty years but was finally caught and has to be transported across country for trial. Kiefer Sutherland plays the FBI agent assigned to transfer him. Some very comedic moments, a few touching ones, and a couple of plot twists before it's all over. I still enjoy watching it once a year or so.
Yeah...it appears that since they are listing both Hoppers it may just be the wife...especially with what other's are saying about Dennis. It is kinda sleazy to have them both listed on that donor list if it is just her. I'm beginning to think they listed him because it added more clout for the Dems.
I haven't caught up on the whole thread yet, but if this is all true, the GOP needs to stop eating their own. yetThanks Bushbacker.
First off...I was not "knowingly" lying. Second, even from the post you cited, it states:

If you looked at the donor list, they list both of them together as giving to Kerry's campaign. If it would come as a surprise to the Kerry campaign...it would've come as a surprise to me. Why would I lie about it?
Trying to be friends with Hollyweird..is likened to trying to be friends with the MSM, and the Dem Party. Most of the Malibu crowd are never going to like...GWB & Co.

My big question: Why should anyone care about someone just because they are an actor or actress? I know - fame and fortune - but I am continually amazed at how society deifies sports and movie figures.

The more I think of this story, the more it doesn't ring true. If it were the case, Hollywood liberal would be using the story for gain. I don't know. There's something else going on.
I guess Costner has kind of grown on me over the years. I loved him in "Bull Durham," then he lost me in a bunch of other films I can't even remember, though -- God help me -- I actually liked "Waterworld." It was "The Postman" and the golf movie that really turned me off. But he redeemed himself pretty well with "Open Range."
Still, it's pretty hard to beat Dennis Hopper when you're looking for someone to play a straight-ahead asshole!

I just think that trying to cultivate "friends" in Hollyweird isn't very productive...and generally a waste of time.
