Tom Tasselmyer says 6-12 inches in Baltimore, more up the I-95 corridor noreheast of town.

My experience is that many Baltimorons are lousy drivers to start with, so they are completely hopeless in any kind of bad weather. Anyway, the big problem here is not snow, it's ice. We are generally in the "melt zone" where snow melts during the day and then refreezes overnight, creating sheets of ice all over the roads.

One of my National Guard buddies from Connecticut made fun of me for not being able to drive on snow because I am from Maryland until he tried to drive here in icy conditions. He was forced to admit that I drive better than he does in Maryland winter conditions.

you guys in the middle of the country are often forgotten

We also don't get excited by a few inches of snow.
We just call it winter and go about our business.

Yep, here in WNY we have about 15" on the ground where I am located... I am wondering how much we will get with this storm. The maps are saying only 4 to 8 inches, but I'll bet on more than that.

Since we live in what is called a "lake-effect" band near Lake Erie, we are pretty used to getting dumped on. And, we are always prepared for it.

It's probably all relative, most people are dangerous because they're over cautious but there's always three our four yahoos who drive like it's their day to die.

As for supplies, I keep pretty well stocked up. I don't recall ever seeing a run on the grociery stores in all the years I've lived in Wisconsin.

One year in the 1970's we got a bad April blizzard that caused us to be w/o power for a few days and we cooked off of a portable gas stove and slept around the fire place in our snow suits, but other then tornados, that's the worst weather I recall.

I think the same year Buffalo NY got hit worse and they talked about loading up frieght cars with snow and sending the train south.

I'm only moderately interested. I'm just hoping I don't get stuck at work tonight. And that wouldn't happen anyway 'cause if I got stuck at work, I'd walk home.

LOL!

But then, I've always been one who would cut off his face just to spite my nose.

I'm inland just far enough to not get much lake effect.
I've got a about 12 inches on the ground.
A real good winter storm dumps that much an hour.
Temps this morning were a balmy 6 F.
The lake keeps us a few degrees warmer than the WS side.
This winter has been mild so far.
It's unlikely the lake will freeze over enough this year to stop it's warming of westerly winds.

12-18 and locally more. Usually "locally" means wherever I happen to be at a given moment. Should make for some compelling television and live theater... especially down in South Philly.

GO EAGLES !!!

Hmmmmmm I am a bit east of central MA, and I am seeing 12 to 15 for here and CT

Are Pats playing the Eagles?

A good snow storm is one of my favorite ways to go into a week-end. No lost work, some exercise, fun with the kids...and playoffs on Sunday.

Nice map. The system should deliver just enough snow to LI to break out the sleds and hit the golf course with the little guy.

That would have been The President's Day Blizzard in Feb '03, which caused me major problems, just south of the York area.

http://www.gdnctr.com/blizzard-03/blizzard03_gh_damage.htm

All houses made it easily through 38" in The Blizzard of '96 ( http://www.gdnctr.com/jan_12.htm ), but the snow wasn't evenly distributed across the steel in '03, and 3 of 6 houses caved-in.

Where in PA are you, d?
