Live Thread: D.C. Chapter American Sector Inaugural Parade Freep
Freepers Calling In | Thursday, January 20, 2005 | Kristinn

Posted on 01/20/2005 5:14:15 AM PST by kristinn

All systems are go for the D.C. Chapter's American Sector on the Inaugural Parade route.

The weather is cold, but warmer than the past few days. The sun is peaking through the clouds. Snow covers the sidewalks, but Pennsylvania Avenue has been cleared.

The barricades are up everywhere. Small groups of people are walking around checking things out.

I did a recon last night with BufordP after the Freeper dinner. ANSWER has their bleachers set up on John Marshall Plaza at the starting point for the parade at 4th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. They also have a stage and speaker risers right on the sidewalk at Pennsylvania Ave.

For all their wailing about the Presidential Inaugural Committee denying the public access to the sidewalk on Pennsylvania Ave., ANSWER has taken up most of the sidewalk space themselves with their stage and sound equipment, thereby denying their own people access to the sidewalk on Pennsylvania Ave. I hope the courts take that hypocriscy into account if their case is appealed.

Snow covered most of the American Sector last night. For those not sure where we'll be today, here's the info:

The northeast corner of 7th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. Look for Freepers wearing white Pajama Patrol badge t-shirts with the word 'Marshal' in red letters on the back.

We'll be there from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. We'll have a rally from 10:30 to 11:30. After that, we'll line the parade route in our permitted area on the same block, just a few feet down on the north side of the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue.

We'll be calling in updates throughout the day.

On Scene Report Number Four:

No problems at our Freeper location. About 100 people at our site. Because of the backlogs at security, a lot of Freepers have given up and gone home or are STILL waiting to get in.

One leftist tried to join our group and wouldn’t leave so the police escorted him elsewhere.

Also because of the security delays, there are a lot of empty bleachers, so they’ve been opened to the general public. (Per kristinn, these delays are only on the north side of Penn. The south side appears to be OK, and the south side bleachers are full.)

Well, I had to miss the swearing in and speech. What did he say? Has anything happened I should know about?

On Scene Report Number Five:

Basil and Mr. Basil were at the scene of the tear gas incident at 7th and D (the entrance to the Freeper American Sector) but got away unscathed and are safe and sound back at their hotel.

FReepers who have made it to the American Sector include Congressman Billy Bob, Ironman, Helms, TankerKC (of Rathergate fame), American Child, LeoFL, Nina0113 and Steve 0113, RabidRalph, TrueBlackMan, and Highly Opoinionated. (Please forgive misspellings!)

"No problems at our Freeper location."

Now that is good news.

4 years ago it was impossible to get to the north side of Penn if you attended the inauguration cerimonies. They just won't let anyone cross Pennsylvania Ave.

On Scene Report Number Six:

I’ve been feeding information back to kristinn to let him know the President was still in the Rotunda. I told him about some of the incidents going on around them.

Not a single broadcaster has been to visit our FReepers, but AP and AFP took pictures, NYT sent a reporter, and the Washington Post sent two visitors, a reporter and a videographer.

20-foot by 3-foot banners are permitted, and ours reads, “God Bless “W” And Our Troops!”

On Scene Report Number Seven:

Repub Mommy just made it through security. They were at 7th & D when the anarchists attacked a female police officer.

When kristinn calls again, I'll try to get details about these incidents. They seem to think we, being FReepers, already know all about them!

(Among other things, at the check points people have to remove flags from sticks, even those little pencil sticks.)

I'm listening, not watching, the coverage on CSPAN when I hear a HUGE explosion.

It was the Weather Channel alert, thunder, to announce a snow event.

Those punks and cowards! That's the only set of people they can attack, because a male officer would have kicked their sorry @$$es.

I wonder whether TaxRelief et al are stuck somewhere in the security backup, or whether they managed to get tickets for the swearing-in? I got the streaming video from Fox (still can't get the speeches) and it all looks terribly cold!

We kept getting detoured because of the protesters -- and finally got to the checkpoint on 7th and they had shut it down. Sigh. We'll see you all tonight.

Let them know that there's a bunch of us waiting for the motorcade/parade to go past their location. I'm taping it.
