Majority of Americans disapprove of Bush's Iraq policy, polls say

Shortly before Bush's inauguration for his second term in office, and after he said in an interview that the 2004 election result proved that electorate approved of his handling of the war, a Washington Post/ABC News poll showed that 55 percent of Americans felt the Iraq war was not worth fighting, against 44 percent who thought it was.

Respondents also disapproved of Bush's handling of the situation in Iraq by a 58 to 40 percent margin, and 57 percent of the 1,007 adults surveyed by telephone from January 12-16 were not confident that the upcoming elections in Iraq would lead to a stable government.

Similarly, a USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll published in the nationally distributed newspaper showed that Americans believed it was a mistake sending troops to Iraq by a 52-to-47 percent margin.

Also based on a telephone survey of 1,007 adults, taken January 14-16, the USA Today poll found that respondents were now more or less equally divided as to whether the United States should keep, increase, reduce current troops levels in Iraq.

Until September 2004, the prevailing opinion in polls was that troop levels should be maintained.

Bush also got majority disapproval ratings on a number of other issues in the Washington Post/ABC News poll: 52 percent disapproved of the way he is handling the US economy, Social Security (news - web sites) (55 percent), the budget deficit (58 percent), immigration (54 percent) and health care (51 percent).

Bush got high approval ratings for coping with terrorism (61 percent) and education (56 percent). In foreign affairs, environmental issues and taxes, respondents were divided.

However Bush's overall approval rating stood slightly higher than last month at 52 percent, and 55 percent of those surveyed said they expected him to do a better job as president during the next four years than he did in his first term.

The margin of error for both polls was plus or minus three percentage points.

It's news.

Actually, it's not.

But I have no problem with you posting it. The left is desperately trying to wish away the results of the election, and this is simply an example of that. The more examples, the better.

My dog is 15 years old and has arthritis. It might be too late to teach her to use the pot too.

Has this thread gone to pot, or did it start there?

We all are sick of her and her threads of doom. Maybe we need to call in the Viking Kitties...

I've filed complaints to the management- which I rarely do- until then, maybe the Mothership will suck her back up to where she came from-

Nothing to add to this thread -- frankly, I'd be afraid to add anything -- but wanted to say hello before I go to work...

Obviously, churchy only cares to print one itty bitty part of this poll...for her own agenda.

Thanks for the link, which proves that this poll is far reaching and contains far more information than she used for the title of this thread.

Have you tried etodolac, which is a vet Rx similar to Motrin? It worked wonders for our 11 ( almost 12 ) year-old dog. It is via presciption only.

An OTC treatment worth trying is glucosamine & condrotin... its results vary from one dog to the next according to our vet- some have no benefit at all, some get up and dance. You adjust the dosage according to weight, like you would for a child.

She takes ChondroFlex (non-prescription) twice a day, and when she has a bad day I give her Rimadyl (prescription.) I just got her 2nd bottle of Rimadyl. The first one lasted about 2 1/2 or 3 years.

Oh, she doesn't drag them to the house. She catches them in the swamp, (stop reading here if you have a weak stomach), crushes their heads, and feasts on their bellies where they lay. Or she did, when she was younger. As she got a little older, she switched to baby bunnies. She could just swallow them whole. Have you ever heard a bunny scream? It'll give you nightmares. Now she's even too old to get to them before I can stop her. The neighbor's cats take turns coming over to taunt her. She just stands on the porch whimpering. She knows she doesn't stand a chance.

Churchbluff is female? That accounts for the hysterical tone re:Iraq she took on before the election.

That was the first prescription medicine we tried on her, and it worked wonders- I had not realized how much she had slowed down in the last couple of years until she started taking it, and it was almost like getting a puppy back, she improved so much. I believe etodolac is just a less-costly generic-- they are both similar to motrin for humans.

When I was a kid, a dog 7 or 8 years old had one foot in the grave- it's amazing how much better care and medicine has helped the lives of our animal friends.

I'm always curious as to WHY there is not a follow up question. Why do they never ask WHY do you disapprove of the decision to go to Iraq? I think the results might actually be informative. I'm certainly curious why others feel this way. Otherwise, these kinds of polls just seem to be more "gotcha" drek from the attack media.

Well, not often- I hate doing that, but I just don't suffer fools gladly anymore. Life is too short.

Are those exit polls, or just exit Iraq polls?
