She takes ChondroFlex (non-prescription) twice a day, and when she has a bad day I give her Rimadyl (prescription.) I just got her 2nd bottle of Rimadyl. The first one lasted about 2 1/2 or 3 years.

when she has a bad day I give her Rimadyl (prescription.)That was the first prescription medicine we tried on her, and it worked wonders- I had not realized how much she had slowed down in the last couple of years until she started taking it, and it was almost like getting a puppy back, she improved so much. I believe etodolac is just a less-costly generic-- they are both similar to motrin for humans.
When I was a kid, a dog 7 or 8 years old had one foot in the grave- it's amazing how much better care and medicine has helped the lives of our animal friends.
