Benny Hinn’s Bangalore congregation kicks up a fuss
Religion News ^ | January 17th, 2005

Posted on 01/17/2005 8:48:26 AM PST by missyme

Bangalore, Jan 16: The proposed ‘Pray for India’ programme later this week by American evangelist, Mr Benny Hinn has sparked a controversy with the Bharatiya Janata Party and Sangh parivar organisations up in arms against it, dubbing it as one that’s intended to promote religious conversion.

The Florida-based pastor, who claims to have the power to heal the sick and dying, is slated to attend the three-day prayer meeting from January 21 at Jakkur Airfield here which has been touted by the organisers as a big show, saying lakhs of people from across the country are expected to attend it.

The event has drawn strong opposition from the BJP, the Bajrang Dal and the Hindu Jagarana Vedike who see it as a conspiracy to convert the poor and vulnerable sections to Christianity.

The Bajrang Dal has already announced that 10,000 people would stage a demonstration at the venue. Vedike activists yesterday burnt publicity material of the proposed congregation. In fact, hoardings, banners and posters are now dotting various parts of the city.

Speaking to reporters here today, the Opposition BJP Leader in the legislative assembly, Mr B S Yediyurappa sought to take the state government to task for granting permission to hold the event at Jakkur Airfield, which is “sensitive” from the defence and security viewpoint.

Mr Yediyurappa termed as “unpardonable crime” and “insult to Hindus”, the circulation of pamphlets by organisers of the event criticising idol worship.

“Is the event not a conspiracy to convert people?,” he asked.

Accusing the organisers of promoting “wrong propaganda” that Mr Hinn is a “godman”, Mr Yediyurappa asked the government to reconsider its permission to the prayer meeting at Jakkur.

He said Hindus would voluntarily protest the event.

The Chief Minister, Mr N Dharam Singh has already stated that the government would not take any step to stop the programme, saying the administration cannot interfere with religious events.

Defending the convention, the organisers have said it is being conducted with “noble intention”. During his previous visit to Mumbai last year he did not speak anything about conversion or anything that affects the people’s religious sentiments, they said.

There are reports that Chief Ministers of some Congress-ruled states are likely to attend the meet. Mr Yediyurappa said while the government did not allow conduct of certain rituals at the Hindu-Muslim shrine at Bababudangiri Hills in Chikmagalur district late last year and amassed police force to enforce its decision, it’s now “organising and arranging” Mr Hinn’s programme.

Renowned Kannada litterateur and Jnanapeeth award winner, U R Ananthamurthy has cautioned Mr Dharam Singh against associating himself with the prayer meeting.

“The Chief Minister should not identify himself with this mass hysteria. We should not encourage this (mass hysteria),” Ananthamurthy said.

The police have said they have made elaborate security arrangements for the event.

Isaiah 53:5 is developed more fully in 1 Peter 2:24.

The healing described in Isaiah 53:5 is spiritual healing of the soul from sin.

Christ's healing ministry was an authentication of his identity and mission as Messiah - (Lk. 7:19-23; Jn 5:36; 6:14; 7:31; 9:30-32; 10:37-38; 11:42; 14:10-11; 15:24; 20:30-31; Acts 2:22).

So too, the healing ministry of the Apostles was in order to authenticate their message prior to the finalization of the New Testament Canon and the final destruction of the Old Covenant in AD 70 - (2 Cor. 12:12; Acts 2:43; 3:1-8; 4:33; 5:12; 9:36-42; 19:10-12; 28:8-9).

Even in the Apostolic era, not all Christians had the 'gift of healing' or 'gift of miracles'. For instance, when Dorcas died, Christians called in the Apostle Peter from another town and he, an Apostle, raised her from the dead - Acts 9:36-42. When the apostles died, the sign gifts ceased.

I figured this is the theology I was hearing from you. I don't want to be rude, honest I don't, but that is the theology of the faithless!
I take by your answer that you do not lay your hands on the sick and believe Christ has healed them...and thus they are not healed and your theology is confirmed to you -sad. I am sorry but it is as if we read two different bibles and you have created your own little God that no longer will move in miracles but leaves His people to suffer.

I have seen many healed, I have been healed and have laid hands on others and have seen them healed. I have also seen people who were not healed. God does heal today and His commands and promises are as real today as yesterday.

I can see from your words that you are fully indoctrinated in this the gifts stuff no longer exist and know from experience that there is probably nothing I can say that change your mind and doctrine.

Maybe if you put your doctrine of all this was yesterday and all you have been taught on the shelf and just had a fresh look at the word with the attitude if "I just want the truth" and asked God to give the truth either way in this......

God Bless you Rev...hope you have a fresh look at God and His word. As for me , God commanded me to lay hands on the sick and to have faith in this and I will.

healing is understood to be contingent upon God's will and decree.

And our faith or lack of faith!

I do agree that God remains always sovereign in everything including healing and suffering. It is about Him and not what we receive...however Jesus is the same today as yesterday and all His promises are yea and amen.

God is still the God of miracles and our faith is needed to have God's miracles.
I once dropped a 150lb concrete block about 4 feet and crushed my big toe flat. It was broken and bleeding, I prayed after hopping on the other foot across the yard and it was made completely whole. No sign of damage [except shoe and blood on sock] and all pain was gone.

God said yes to my prayer because of my faith in Him that He would.

Don't know anything about Texe Maars, but I do hope you have another look at the shriners and that it is a religion of darkness.

Please forgive me if I offended you at all ...I admit I do go off some with Christians and those who call themselves Christians that accuse other Christians. There is this theology of we are called to judge other Christians within the body [like a ministry of fruit inspector] while my understanding is we are to be Christlike and pray for unity of His body.

And if he gives God the credit for being able to heal people through 'ol Benny, WHY ISN'T HE IN THE HOSPITALS EMPTYING THEM OUT?

Did Jesus empty out Hospitals?

After Threats, Police in India Promise Protection for TV Evangelist
BANGALORE, India (RNS) Shiv Sena, a hard-line Hindu group, is threatening to disrupt a massive healing crusade planned by television evangelist Benny Hinn, but police promise they will provide adequate security

The Shiv Sena is not a "Hindu group" it is a right wing political group with a supposedly hardline "Hindu" agenda. Now this is the problem with some of your western and Christian propagandist reporting. The Shiv Sena is restricted to certain pockets of India and they hardly win even 5% of overall votes in Indian elections. They do not represent the hindus nor have the hindus given them any kind of political or religious mandate. These guys gain their publicity with these kind of antics. India knows well how to handle these idiots and the "western" media needn't create more trouble by spreading misinformation. And one more thing, in a free country everybody has the right to protest as long as it doesnt turn violent.

Anyway the Shiv Sena isnt anywhere near the guys in grey crep in your country. Bad examples, if thats what you are looking for, are everywhere and not difficult to find. Even we people here know about the KKK and the "Dot Busters".

I'm still going to be very careful what I SAY about another Christian brother or sister. It's one thing to say something TO them but quite another to say something ABOUT them. I believe in confronting a brother/sister who is wrong but not going behind their backs and talking about them. I admit to having some problems in that regard but I'm working hard to overcome that.

CHAPTER 11
11:1 Whosoever, therefore, shall come and teach you all these things aforesaid, him do ye receive;

11:2 but if the teacher himself turn and teach another doctrine with a view to subvert you, hearken not to him; but if he come to add to your righteousness, and the knowledge of the Lord, receive him as the Lord.

11:3 But concerning the apostles and prophets, thus do ye according to the doctrine of the Gospel.

11:4 Let every apostle who cometh unto you be received as the Lord.

11:5 He will remain one day, and if it be necessary, a second; but if he remain three days, he is a false prophet.

11:6 And let the apostle when departing take nothing but bread until he arrive at his resting-place; but if he ask for money, he is a false prophet.

Tis is what has been reported, I did not say it was the Gospel. Anyways Benny Hinn will be in Bangalore this weekend so I think we will all see how it goes over there with everyone.

I got it backwards huh!

Yes, you have it totally backwards.

You seem to really dislike Hinn and accuse him him of all sorts of here say nonsense...

It is *not* hearsay. I am a direct witness to Benny Hinn's self-serving, evil nonsense.

...as for the shriners here is some material from the shriners link you supplied.

I don't even think you tried to read my post. Instead, you go pointing fingers at the Grand Poobah of the Loyal Order of the Water Buffaloes. The Shriners are a fraternity; a fraternity whose primary mission is fundraising efforts for their charity hospitals. The irony is Shriners' Hospitals actually do heal people.

Of course Benny Hinn gives all the credit to Jesus
That way, he makes sure he gets ten times as much credit (and donations as well)

Actually, children were brought from a hospital to Hinn's session in Kenya (2000, I think it was). FOUR of them are said to have died waiting in the queue for Hinn to pray over them.

You ask why Benny Hinn's ministry is growing? Well, because it conforms to the spirit of this world, that's probably the major reason. He preaches a gospel of prosperity and healing and says nothing about carrying the cross and following after Jesus. Jesus said Blessed are the Poor, and blessed are they who mourn and weep. But Benny Hinn says blessed are you when you receive your financial miracle. His Gospel is a total contradiction of the Gospel of Christ and that's why it's so popular. Remember why Baal worship was popular in ancient Israel, because it promised material benefits.

My point was Hindus have never spread jihad hatred against anybody.

Really? The residents of Gujarat might be inclined to disagree with you.

Sorry I have to dis-agree with many of these posters. We could all say these things about any "RICH" Christian entity or person in the world.

How about Mel Gibson? He made 600 Million on the Passion of the Christ? Was he using Jesus? or let's see Pres Bush a man who speaks of GOD and Jesus Christ is he using him to win elections? How about TBN or the Vatican? How about all the Christian Internet Sites that ask for donations?

IMHO Jesus knows without a doubt the intent of every MAN's HEART we don't have that ability all we do as human beings is make educated guesses.

Benny Hinn might be a Theif or he might be genuine GOD knows his heart and only GOD.

My feeling is this if he (Benny Hinn) is in countries that do not have the priviledge to know Jesus Christ who he is and what he can do for there lives and people hear about Jesus at a Hinn Crusade if it makes that person of a Hindu or Muslim or Buddah or Atheist background leave the crusade giving Jesus a chance by seeking him out through prayer and scripture I say God Bless Hinn for doing that.

Once again, it comes down to what is done with those donations. Your local church takes donations to keep the doors open and usually also to help local needy families. Hinn has a mansion and expensive cars. He doesn't open his books for public inspection the way Pat Robertson does. I would consider donating money to Pat Robertson because I know how the money would be spent. I would NEVER consider giving money to Hinn.

I am called upon to judge righteous judgment - that is discernment rooted in God's Law-Word. I am called to test the spirits. Judged by Scripture

Great I am sure without a doubt that you will be able to identify the Anti-Christ.

As you well know Scripture is subject to interpetation one of the biggest dilemmas for Jews and Christians in reading the Tanakh as well as the Gospels..

I am sure you know scripture has been re-written. ALthough I beleive in Jesus's Gospel I do understand things might not be accurate that is why Meditation and prayer to Jesus gives you answers when you become un-sure of scripture.

So should I judge my Pastor or Priest if he is driving a 2005 Mercedes? or if he is driving a 1965 Rambler?
