(Hazlet, N.J.-WABC, January 16, 2005) — A gruesome discovery in New Jersey, as a severed head and body are found near a movie theater in Monmouth County.
Eyewitness News reporter Ken Rosato is live at the scene in Hazlet, with more on this murder mystery.
The police found a head in the woods in the wooded area behind a movie theater, on a busy movie night when hundreds of cars packed the parking lot.

I think we should not jump to conclusions. Islamic terrorists are not the only ones who decapitate their victims.
True, but they are the ones who have established the benchmark. Now they have to live with being suspect. Goes with the territory.
While I do think that radical Islamists are the most obvious perpetrators, I know a woman whose husband was jumped on the street in LA and decapitated for a gang initiation back in the early seventies. The man was a grad student, doing research at UCLA on a Sunday, and taking a bus home. He never made it and his headless body washed up somewhere near Laguna Beach.
I think so too. These killings in NJ are just too strange.
Don't lose your head of this but there is another group that does this and they are right up the road from you. Years ago I was in Ruidoso when someone brought a head in from the Mescalero. The deputies were pissed because it was the fourth or fifth head in a year. they had no jurisdictional authority, and no one would even identify the cabezas.

I've actually never heard of that kind of thing up there. Geez --- and I go camping up near there. Well --- probably not too many Mescaleros in New Jersey at any rate.
They aren't --- and if this news didn't just follow the news of that family of four getting slaughtered, it might not be the first conclusion --- but it's likely something is going on in NJ and it's very possible the same killer(s) are involved with both events.

Its being called a suicide the guy tied something around his neck and sped off in his car, as per WB11 10 o'clock news NJ.
If that's the case, how do you suppose the body got from the car to the woods, where it was reported found?
as a fellow Jerseyite (but up north in Allendale, NJ, close to Rockland Cty, NY,( I can appreciate your very literary description of the Hazlet area...in fact it was one of the most well-wrought pieces of prose I've seen on FR.
I remember once a car went off the road into a deep wash. They found the car and the headless body of the driver next to it. They searched the car and the wash for hours looking for the head and couldn't find it. Just as they concluded that some ghoul had cut it off and taken it for a souvenir someone glanced up. The grinning head was staring down at them from a fork in a tree branch. The driver had been thrown from the car and as his body flew through the air the fork had caught him by neck and popped his head off.

Political correctness says I can not make any conclusions about this situation but.
Sort of like those sniper killings down in Washington D.C. that the PC Nazi's got all rankled about because some of us said they were religious motivated.
