05/01

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Five

A RESOLUTION urging Congress to withdraw the United States from the United Nations.

Whereas, the United States is the greatest nation in the world and is known for its compassionate people who are generous and kind in caring for the needs of those in other countries and whose resources are used worldwide to alleviate hunger and poverty; and

Whereas, the United States is called upon to defend the rights and freedoms of people in other nations as only we have the capacity to do so as a world superpower; and

Whereas, these responsibilities create an immense burden on the citizens of this country, many of whom are in need and living in poverty themselves; and

Whereas, United States military forces are called upon to bear the brunt of any conflicts that may arise while other nations stay on the sidelines and expect the United States to fight its battles; and

Whereas, the United States provides the largest share of the financial burden for the United Nations, paying hundreds of millions of dollars each year that could be used to address many of the nation's challenges, including homelessness, education, law enforcement, poverty, a strong military, and the war against terrorism; and

Whereas, many of the members of the United Nations are not friendly to the United States and support many things that are detrimental to the country and against its interests, yet expect the United States to provide the finances and manpower to solve all of the world's problems, even putting the lives of the nation's military forces in danger; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the New Hampshire general court respectfully but firmly requests that the United States Congress:

I. Take measures to dissolve the membership of the United States in the United Nations, thereby freeing the nation from a large financial burden and retaining its sovereignty to decide what is best for the country; and

II. Take the steps that it considers appropriate as the leader of the free world, with full control of its armed forces and destiny; and

That a copy of this resolution, signed by the speaker of the house of representatives and the president of the senate, be forwarded by the house clerk to the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the members of the New Hampshire congressional delegation.

We have to start Banging on the doors of Congress and the White House!! We may have to make a trip to Washington to get this job done!! Get the US Out of the UN and the UN out of the US.

End all treaties and agreements, as they should be Illegal and Unconstitutional. No one has the right, permission or the authority to negotiate away the Sovereignty of the United States or the Rights of it's Citizens!!

"Spread like AIDS did and kills the U.N."

>AIDS has proven very difficult to kill<

All it takes is abstention. I doubt the UN is addictive so let's just abstain and that will kill it.

Adding the introduction of this Respolution into the NH Senate, plus the state's voting for Kerry in the '04 election, makes me wonder if the Free State Project (as well as what seems to be an increasing # of Constitutionists into the state) are beginning to have a statewide impact.

LET'S REALLY HOPE SO. From what I've noticed so far, I don't think Kerry won NH--instead, Bush LOST NH because the smaller-government voters are sticking to principle & are voting for those who insist on cutting the federal government down to its Constitutional limits rather than voting for a big-government Republicans like President Bush. If that causes a socialist like Kerry to win the states' electoral votes, then too bad--maybe the GOP should become more like the New Hampshire Senate rather than having these 3rd Party voters vote GOP.

Live Free or Die!!!!!

uhhhhhhhhhh.....what's wrong w/ that?

They might be, if you wanna look at it that way: they're the state chosen as the place the members of the Free State Project decided to move to, because of its small population size, it's strong ties to traditional family values, strong support for the 2nd Amendment, & no state income tax.

I wish the FSP a great deal of success...now only if I could move there!!!!!!! (This pro-Confederate Arkie boy would be welcome up in THAT part of Yankee territory, wouldn't he?).

I would further venture to lead a committee of citizens that will raise funds to purchase a barge of sufficient size, that when moored on the west bank of the East River will be able to accommodate the entire UN building sawed off at its base with some room to spare.
Thence proceeding southbound under the Manhattan Bridge, The Stately Brooklyn Bridge, around the Battery to Liberty Island, it will stop temporarily and have the statue of liberty added to its cargo it will then proceed across the Atlantic to the coast of Normandy where both edifices will be ceremoniously rolled into the surf on Omaha Beach to lie forever below the cliff at the American Cemetary at Colleville-sur Mer.

It sounds great, but in practice it would be tremendously STUPID to give up our UN veto by leaving.

Such a bone-headed move would permit the Tallyrands of the world to outmaneuver the U.S. in global geo-politics; we'd find the international equivilent of union strikes against us as well as treaties that excluded us from certain types of trade...or that singled us out for tariffs.

It would also screw Israel, a nation that depends upon our UN veto to keep Europe, Asia, and the Middle-East from combining to wipe it out politically, economically, and even militarily.

Sometimes "feel good" politics make for bad policy.

If you want to kill the UN, then simply advocate the the U.S. veto *everything* that the UN wants. Grind that place to a halt.

But you can't do that if you've forfeited our veto by leaving.

"I can't believe it's coming out of a liberal state."

Liberals would *love* for the U.S. to forfeit its UN veto.

But the veto is basically meaningless, if the US leaves the UN the entire organization will be worthless.

"But the veto is basically meaningless, if the US leaves the UN the entire organization will be worthless."

No, and no.

Our UN veto means that the UN can't place global economic sanctions and embargoes onto Israel, for one thing.

For your other claim, keep in mind that many organizations survive today *without* U.S. membership; so too could the UN.

You would be making a bad gamble, with lives and entire economies at stake, if you played your hand such that the *only* way for you to win would be if the UN folded if we left.

I promise you that Europe, China, Africa, and the Middle-East would *love* to pay for a UN that had no U.S. veto.
