Freezing Rain Coats Area Roads Air Masses Battling Over Valley

PORTLAND -- It’s the battle of the air masses over the Willamette Valley Saturday.

At 9 a.m., light rain was falling, freezing as it hit roads, power lines and plants. Snow was starting to come down east of the Cascades.

KOIN News 6 meteorologist Mark Ronchetti said cold east winds are mixing with a wet warm front. The warm system slowly chipping away at the cold front will eventually win, and the freezing rain will turn to rain.

The temperature is expected to sit just below the freezing mark until about 4 or 5 p.m.

Be sure to check KOIN.com Weather for the latest forecast information. Track snowfall on the KOIN.com Ski Report.

It's that giant, invisible, freezing rain machine floating offshore; built by Halliburton in a no-bid contract using funds siphoned off the war in Iraq.

It's all Bush's fault.

The weather outside is pretty chilly but not raining currently in the Raleigh Hills neighborhood of Portland. I wish it would just start snowing for real and dump five inches of snow today and get it over with finally. This "It's gonna snow today, maybe, and maybe just freezing rain or just rain" and yada, yada, yada BS is getting pretty old. The weather news people in this city cannot even hold a candle for really competent people in the midwest.

How are the roads out your way?

The Gorge should get pretty dicey.

I saw that movie! But I thought it was NYC. Now what was it called? The Day After . . .I fergit, all I remember was if Cheney had signed at Kyoto, none of it would have happened. Just signing that piece of paper would have made the weather patterns change .. . . somehow . .that's not very scientific . .now that I think about it. Hey! I think I was hynotized or brainwashed or sumptin

Where is Raleigh Hills? My son is in L. Oswego, and goes to school in Tigart.

Good luck and be safe. We've had enough of the icy stuff and power outages here in Ohio.

From across the river in Vancouver, it's getting worse by the minute. I'd better throw a blanket over my Hibiscus, if I can get to it. Brrrr!

Raleigh Hills is West of the core city area, and Lake Oswego is South of Portland. I used to live in Kings Hts. in Portland, and I don't miss the ice storms there - without electricity for nearly a week at a time! We have underground utilities where I now live, thank goodness!

Underground utilities are great.

We know a number of people getting generators, including us.

Portland is beautiful. So glad I was there in Oct., tho.

Raleigh Hills is just off Hwy 10 or Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. This area is commonly confused with Beaverton because the cities and counties jig-jag crazily. Nice area with many expensive homes.
