Liberals have absolutely no sense of humor & take themselves way too seriously. South Park really puts it in their eye - sometimes it's horribly offensive, but it's really funny too. I thought Team America was refreshing & funny - maybe there's hope for the world yet.

"a lot of the older conservatives just don't get it."

I disagree with that. I find that young conservatives have a better relationship with their conservative parents than liberals due with their liberal children.

Mostly because the children of liberals grow up with no value system, and turn out just as their parents raised them, without a sense of right and wrong. And then their parents wonder "what went wrong?"

Haven't seen Team America yet, but i'm sure I'll like for the simple reason Sean Penn hates it.

Interesting article. I've always tried to dispel the image that conservatives are fuddy-duddies who listen to Lawrence Welk music and sip martinis in their double-breasted suits at men's clubs (not that there's anything wrong with that!).

I have tastes in music and film and whatnot that is considered to be incongrous with conservatism. So many people who know me casually are often surprised, when they get to know me better, to find out what a staunch conservative I am. For somebody who likes movies like Pulp Fiction, reads a lot of sociology books and has everything Pearl Jam ever recorded is not usually associated with the conservative movement. So there you go.

When South Park first came out, I dismissed it as another one of those insipid TV shows like "Beavis & Butthead." But one night when I was flipping channels, I came across an episode as it was first starting and decided to check it out (after having heard mention of it so much on Free Republic). I never laughed so hard in my life. What a clever show! It was the episode where the kids got taken to the rain forest by the Birkenstock-clad, bearded teacher. Good stuff. I've watched a few episodes since then and sometimes it goes a little overboard, but the writers continue to come up with great material to satirize.

On all the immigration threads, I've been trying to post a picture of Cartman dancing at Casa Bonita (which I understand is a real restaurant in Denver!).

Is there a downside to the rise of South Park conservatism? I ask. "It can be," as its critics claim Anderson notes, "kind of nihilistic, profane, and vulgar." And, of course, "it will offend a lot of people." But, he says, "the biggest danger is that the activism and the attitude might replace an engagement with ideas."

The currency of the young is ideas. The currency as one ages shifts to results if one transitions to conservativism. But if the starting point for that journey is that of a South Park conservative instead of a neo-Vietnam liberal, the journey is much, much shorter.

Hasn't there been a book or study done showing the Simpsons is probably one of the most religious shows on broadcast TV? Amusing how cartoons can push certain things and it's acccepted (and they are hits), but if it were real people doing those same things on a TV show, there would be all kinds of protests and people freaking out, or they would be relegated to the lower regions of cable TV.
