Fox News: FBI says suspicious activity along Inaugural route. People walking around taking notes on buildings along route. Not sure if it's terrorist activity or not.

I tried to report some of the plannings on DU and elsewhere calling for violence but the SS no longer has a tip reporting online form. You have to call them. I forwarded the material to the FBI. I would bet that they monitor much of these online conversations but better safe than sorry.

Boy that is interesting. When my family went to DC last year, my wife and I took notes as well as my kids so at the end of the day we could play a game called "what did we see that day."

Could also be nothing.

>>>It sounds like the letter to State Dept. has "not been deemed credible." <<<

Why? Because it had Pakistani or Saudi stamps on it? It's only not credible if you have the author in an armlock!

Since the innauguration will cost the U.S. taxpayers $40 million, it would be better to have a simple ceremony that costs nothing and let it go at that.

Has anyone seen this "interactive" map?
http://inauguralmap.com

Did you read the "About" link? (Here 'tis...)

On Thursday January 20th, 2005, thousands of people are expected to convene on Washington, DC for the inauguration of George W. Bush. The Inaugural Map was created as an on-line portal to help facilitate and coordinate plans of these visitors coming to Washington, DC from all around a very divided America. In order to direct these visitors to the most appropriate places around DC, the Inaugural Map contains links to both the "Red" & "Blue" websites to further coordinate their plans. The Inaugural Map was constructed using information freely available on the internet and created using Macromedia's web authoring program "Flash." The Map itself is a .3 meter orthoimage of Washington, DC obtained from the U.S. Geological Survey and available for download on the Inaugural Map website. The information contained in this interactive geographical information system is from the Washington Area Metro Transit Authority, MapQuest, and the Joint Task Force Armed Forces Inaugural Committee. As more information concerning inauguration becomes available, the Inaugural Map will be updated accordingly. The Inaugural Map was made by a Washington, DC resident who is a member of the DC Statehood Green Party and has close friends who are participating in the Inaugural Parade and Counter-Inaugural festivities. The aim of the Inaugural Map is to not endorse one specific side of the political spectrum, rather to facilitate and coordinate visitor plans to Washington, DC. The source funds used to create the project were donated by the Inaugural Map's creator as public service. Please do not hesitate to contact info@inauguralmap.com with any further questions!

This is just the FBI's subtle way of encouraging possible protesters to stay home rather than risk their lives by being caught up in some violent event. All in all, it should cut the crowd control problems by at least 50% which I think is the whole purpose behind the "warning".

"I've got an idea. How 'bout Dubya going down the parade route in an M1 Abrams tank?"

I love it in principle, but I fear it would just remind folks of the Michael Dukakis gaffe. Not exactly august company. On the other hand, if they were to build W some sort of Exo-suit...

Did I miss something? I sure donated to the Inauguration...I thought it was funded that way!

I am sure that the security and DC costs are a part of their 4 year budgets however.

Probably some fat, smelly, unshaven, unclean, pocket protector type, who lives in his mothers basement gettin' his kicks sending "scarry anonymous letters" to government agencies.

I doubt if it was the Womens' Auxiliary or a troop of Cub Scouts. 'People taking notes' sounds like TROP® to me.

There are a lot of nut cases out there. It may be a bunch of left wing liberals trying to get DC security chasing their tail.

Worries me that there is so much concentration on DC that other vulnerable areas could be left wide open for the Terrorists, including our own "home-grown" ones that still think it should be Al Gore parading down Pennsylvania Avenue for his second term!

God Bless our President and pray for a peaceful inauguration.

Give Peace a Chance - A Liberal Oxymoron!

Thanks for the ping. Given the historical lack of coordination between the alphabet agencies, don't be surprised if the FBI was observing the Secret Service.
