The hearing before U.S. District Court Judge John Bates went well. In an unusual move, Michael Newdow, who brought the suit challenging inaugural prayer, did not appear in court. Instead he conducted his arguments via a speaker phone in court.
Senior Counsel Jim Henderson was in court for the hearing and said while Judge Bates questioned both sides aggressively during the two-hour hearing, it was clear the court had concerns about the validity of Newdow's suit and expressed doubt as to whether a court could order the president not to include a prayer at the inauguration ceremony.
Judge Bates asked: "Is it really in the public interest for the federal courts to step in and enjoin prayer at the president's inauguration?"....

This moron should have to pay by the hour for all the docket time he's used up.
Agreed. Were I the judge I would ask him if a prayer at the inauguration will cause him to become something he isn't or believe something he doesn't. And since he cannot prove such injury, case dismissed.....
Newdow is mentally disturbed. Americans shouldn't be expected to fund his crazed obsession.</p>
Who says there is no such thing as a stupid question?
Amazing that one man could be a thorn in the side of mainstream American just because his wife left him. It's easy to see WHY she left him.
Forthose who understand legal appeals processes, how is it that some cases wait for years to be heard by the Supreme Court, but this is going to get rushed through?
He's a miserable SOS, who's taking the axiom "misery loves company" to an extreme that's light years beyond simple neurosis
Very good! Carry on!
There are rules for time sensitive suits such as this one. The creep's equally creepy ACLU vampire buddies filed by the cutoff date for the case to be heard in time to rain on the presidential inauguration.
I don't understand this guy or his comrades in the ACLU. Shouldn't he feel neutral about prayer? I don't believe in the benefits of eating gin-soaked raisins, but I wouldn't be offended if someone wanted to discuss it in my presence. I'd just wait patiently until the person began discussing something I was interested in, like letting victims of hurricanes go naked.
