RATHER STAYS HOME; EXECUTIVES SPLIT; MOONVES LOOKS TOWARDS FUTURE
*Exclusive**
CBSNEWS veteran Don Hewitt called Dan Rather's disappearance from Monday's Evening News "really stupid" during a damage control meeting on Monday, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
One top source inside the CBS Broadcast Center claimed Rather was told to stay off the air on Monday, as a form of punishment!
Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer was called in to anchor the damaged ship.
CBS staffers were shocked Monday when CBS president Les Moonves suddenly tied Rather's upcoming resignation to the phony document flap, a departure from CBS's official storyline.
Moonves explained in a memo: "Dan Rather has already apologized for the segment and taken responsibility for his part in the broadcast. He voluntarily moved to set a date to step down from the CBS EVENING NEWS in March of 2005... after examining the report and thinking about its implications, we believe any further action would not be appropriate."

This is a corporation with stockholders. Believe me, the apology has already been manifested behind closed doors.
Dan Rather is no different than any other superstar that has tried to stay on too long. CBS has already essentially told the world that Rather was shown the door.

O'Reilly is simply playing a game with this, kissing DR's and Don Hewitt's butts. Protecting future prospects. Perhaps he wants Rathers job. Although being number 1 (why?) at FNC seems to be a step up. He's pretty old school.
Whatever the reason, I'm sure it is self serving.
Hey did he mention his new Factor Gear?
To: Swanks
After reading the report ; Rather should not be staying home, but staying in JAIL.
cBS did everything but put DIOXIN in President Bush's soup.

How very clintonoid. Clinton never apologized either, but he did come out and say that he had "already apologized." And the MSM repeated it ad nauseam. And this coming from the very people that demanded the President to apologize .. the very people that have gone out of their way to try and bring this President down
I've been listening to the talking heads off and on all day and I keep hearing how Dan, CBS & 60 minutes only rushed airing this story was because they wanted to be the first
What a LOAD of BS .. By saying that .. they are claiming that All the main news stations were planning on reporting on these FORGED documents .. which is not the case.
PLUS they seem to forget the DNC Ads called "Fortunate Son" that came out so soon after Dan aired these FORGED documents
The other spin is that CBS is not bias, because if they were ... then they would have aired it right before the election
AGAIN .. what a load of BS
The Swift Boat Vets were hurting Kerry and this attack on the President was to help Kerry
Yes, some lost their jobs over this .. But Dan and Heyworth got off scott free from trying to change the outcome of a Presidential Election
IMO .. The Media/Press is STILL covering for Dan and CBS and they STILL have not addressed WHO was it that forged these military documents

The fact that he thinks he can get away with this shows you who runs CBS: Danny boy.

Here at Arizona State University, the journalism school is named the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism (gag). Some liberal university will soon do the same with Rather.

Meanwhile, Mapes is officially defending the documents as authentic. They will be proven authentic about the same time OJ finds the real killer.
To: jrewing
The "Planet of the Mapes" was very good too. I did like the simplicity of the "Last Stand". :)

If CBS really is serious and wants to be contrite, they
would fire Dandy Dan, and bar Walter Cronkite from the
premises...forever! Turkeys beget turkeys.
