RATHER STAYS HOME; EXECUTIVES SPLIT; MOONVES LOOKS TOWARDS FUTURE

*Exclusive**

CBSNEWS veteran Don Hewitt called Dan Rather's disappearance from Monday's Evening News "really stupid" during a damage control meeting on Monday, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

One top source inside the CBS Broadcast Center claimed Rather was told to stay off the air on Monday, as a form of punishment!

Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer was called in to anchor the damaged ship.

CBS staffers were shocked Monday when CBS president Les Moonves suddenly tied Rather's upcoming resignation to the phony document flap, a departure from CBS's official storyline.

Moonves explained in a memo: "Dan Rather has already apologized for the segment and taken responsibility for his part in the broadcast. He voluntarily moved to set a date to step down from the CBS EVENING NEWS in March of 2005... after examining the report and thinking about its implications, we believe any further action would not be appropriate."

I didn't draw that one, but I appreciate good work, so I post it whenever an appropriate Rather moment comes up. I did do the "Planet of the Mapes" poster though.

I heard O'Reilly, and almost got violently ill at his attempt to paint Rather as a victim.

The odious Rather has always been anti-Republican, way back from the Nixon days: Nixon: "Are you running for something?" Rather: "No sir, are you?"

Then his confrontation with Bush 41 when Dad asked Rather if he wanted his entire career to be judged on the time he threw a tantrum and walked off the set.

Rather HATES the Bush family - I think it's partly his innate knee-jerk liberalism, and there may be a "Texas" element added in there, too.

They (SeeBS) seem to refer to the WH rather than the current President. I'm sure they meant no harm to the WH, but all the harm to Bush43. Until they admit that, there will be no end to criticism that they are the LSM.

If Dan Rather doesn't go on the air, will anyone notice?

Not likely. I suspect Miss Mary will be paid very well for her silence. The golden parachute will make up for a lot of angst.

Further, watch for her to write a book or some other hit piece on President Bush.

Goldberg smacked Colmes (twice) for not listening to what he said. LOL!

I hate it when Alan gets that self righteous tone. How DARE someone accuse Dan of corrupting the evening news even when it is true.

Oh, great. Bernstein is on "corrupting" H&C. BTW, Rathergate is about the collusion of CBS & the DNC to take down a sitting president. I would put this on par with a "criminal" president carl.

Bernstein claiming the Swift Boat Vets were liars. He makes me want to smack him! I still think he lied about Watergate.

I believe in redemption and 2nd chances. Unfortunetly, Dan Rather is on his 92nd chance.

"Mapes is going to be the darling of the Hollywood-Michael Moore set."

My thought was that she was going to take a job with MoveOn.

"CBS staffers were shocked" when Les Moonves departed from "CBS's official storyline."

Kinda tells you all you need to know about how candid CBS is.

Well the Swiftees ARE a large reason why CBS and the kerry campaign orchestrated this stunt around Bush's national Guard service.

The Libs still think the Swiftees are liars. They thought they had this grand war hero that would sabotage Bush, whom they have convinced themselves dodged the Vietnam war. Hilarious when you consider they were anti-war protestors themselves and thought it heroic to do so! They knew they were weak on security, and thought a "war hero" was enough to shore up that weakness. They thought 3 months in war topped Bush's four years as C-I-C. Uh, not quite, Benedict Arnold was a traitor and so is Kerry.

They not only believe the Swiftees are liars, they believe Rove and Bush are behind them. This was supposed to be 'payback'. Nevermind it isn't the duty of the press to act as judge.

Bernstein is no different than the people that orchestrated Rathergate. The worst thing that happened to them is that they got caught. Otherwise, the ends justify the means. use fake documents if you have to, to get Bush out of office, convince the American people he was a war dodger because they believe it, and punish Rove and Bush for promoting the Swiftees who lied about their war hero.

The Dems are insane. I don't make this charge lightly, though Alan can exercise righteous indignation if he chooses. I truly believe they need to be committed.

Can someone please explain to me why the regular Fox channel does not have a national nightly news to compete with the big 3? This seems like a no brainer to me.

The Dems are insane.

That has never been more evident than it has become lately. I can't believe how much the lefty KOOKS hate the Bush family and administration. They can't do ANYTHING right according to them.

He NEVER apologized to the President.

How very clintonoid. Clinton never apologized either, but he did come out and say that he had "already apologized." And the MSM repeated it ad nauseam.
