New Jersey has nothing to do with this. The democrats in Congress passed the EMTALA laws mandating all hospitals and doctors to provide free care for the invaders, oops I meant "immigrants." With not one cent of funding for all this "free" care.
And jails.
I prefer the term, 'invasive parasite', myself.
Bump
It's a huge problem. Legal immigration is also a problem. I wonder when people will wake up. Bush better get crackin' on this (though I doubt he will) 'cause Hillary is going to usurp this issue and it just might catapult her to victory in 2008. Many average citizens, most of whom are not politically astute, are sick of the government doing nothing about either one.
What we are not being told is how much income hospitals and doctors derive from illegal immigrants who DO pay their bills?
What percent of illegals fail to pay compared to what percent DO pay.
How many doctors are making profits from regular office visits by illegals who were referred to them by the hospitals?
How many workers' comp payments are the hospitals taking in.
Federal law only requires that ERs stabilize patients, not continue treating them long term.
Houston has one of the largest illegal populations in the nation and the hospitals are doing very well. New ones are being built all over town and the medical center added another one million square feet last year.
The NJ hospitals are trying to make a case for being given more money by the federal government. They should study the way Houston does it instead.
"unless state or federal agencies step in and pay the bills."
READ: TAXPAYERS get screwed and pay the bills. The government has nothing until they take it from us.
Here in westchester county, a local hospital has just closed down, I believe because all the illegal aliens who use the hospital have not paid thier medical bills.
It's sad that in a year where there's a contested Republican gubernatorial primary in NJ, none of the viable candidates are making an issue of this. NJ is still home to a lot of culturally conservative Catholic Dems who might switch on this issue if they were made aware of it (Yes, they should KNOW already, but their kinda dumb even my sheeple standards). Unfortunately, neither Schundler nor Forrester (nor Christie, if he jumps in) even mention it.
That's right, and with no one to bill the hospitals are suppose to carry the cost alone. Liberal politicians never worry about where the money comes from when they pass Utopian bills.
But, suppose the hospitals billed the state, and the state refused to pay because it's a federal mandate? The hospitals would have no recourse but to close their doors just as any corporation would do.
If hospitals started closing up, politicians would go into their CYA mode, and the state would quickly come up with enough money to keep them open through larger taxes on the people of the state - in this case New Jersey.
Further disconcerting is the fact that in NJ illegal aliens are, by law, entitled to Workers' Compensation. This includes full payment of medical bills, temporary disability payments of up to 70% of the state average weekly wage and a permenant disability award. I also have a relative in NJ who is an elementary school teacher making a sizable salary who informed me that not one of her 15 students is legally present in this country.
Actually hospitals ARE quietly closing up all over the place. Los Angeles is in big trouble as the invaders shut down hospital after hospital.
I'm totally with you on your message. It is time to get beligerant, obnoxious and unignorable. I've given niceness and constant civilized discourse it's chance and urged members to follow that course. Now that the Administration has made plain that they intend to run roughshod over sovereignty I declare they've made a declaration of war on the citizens who supply funding and power. "Props" to you for pointing out this inevitable state of affairs to me three years ago when I was a newbie. I'm reaching back with the knife and cutting off the offending/buggering member of government invasiveness. The time has come to demand accountability or know why not.
They work for us. not the other way around.
As one that's been involved in hospital administration since 1969 I can guarantee you that facilities such as HCA are not accepting nonpaying illegals. They are being shifted over to hospitals such as Ben Taub. Let the tax payers pick up the bill.
Actually, I am just going to move to Houston and live near bayourod. Apparently it is some kind of paradise.
From post: "a huge popular uprising - "
I hope so! It is the only answer when just about everyone in Washington D.C. ignores the voice of the people.
Just my opinion -
Forgot to mention that in some cities in NJ realtors are showing rentals by the room. I personally know several individuals here illegally living in an appartment with either friends or strangers in similar circumstances. BTW, housing in NJ is among the least affordable relative to earnings in the country.
Are you serious?
Fact: Fed rules require all emergency cases to be treated
Fact: Illegals rely on E.R. for primary care.
Fact: The E.R.s are pushing their inaction onto the state/Fed
The E.Rs are not required to treat all incoming patients - only the emergency ones - yet they continue to whine & go out of biz, rather than refuse the non-emergency cases.
In NJ it is the law. The courts have made a public policy finding that making sure all emplyees are covered trumps other considerations. This drives up the cost of an employer carrying comp insurance, which is mandatory of all employers. One can make the argument that hiring illegals at lower pay offsets the higher cost of the insurance premium. And yes, some schools in NJ are highly burdened by illegal aliens. And yes, realtors are showing listings by the room. Seeing it first hand.
