""New Jersey hospitals generate about $15 billion in total annual revenue, so people may assume that $200 million would have little impact on the industry," "

What we are not being told is how much income hospitals and doctors derive from illegal immigrants who DO pay their bills?

What percent of illegals fail to pay compared to what percent DO pay.

How many doctors are making profits from regular office visits by illegals who were referred to them by the hospitals?

How many workers' comp payments are the hospitals taking in.

Federal law only requires that ERs stabilize patients, not continue treating them long term.

Houston has one of the largest illegal populations in the nation and the hospitals are doing very well. New ones are being built all over town and the medical center added another one million square feet last year.

The NJ hospitals are trying to make a case for being given more money by the federal government. They should study the way Houston does it instead.

As one that's been involved in hospital administration since 1969 I can guarantee you that facilities such as HCA are not accepting nonpaying illegals. They are being shifted over to hospitals such as Ben Taub. Let the tax payers pick up the bill.
