08.01.05 | Various sources report that El Charcote ranch, owned by British Vestey group, was seized this morning by Venezuelan authorities and the army. This is the first illegal seizure that the Chavez regime conducts against private property owned by foreign groups. With this precedent, will anyone be intrepid enough to invest in Venezuela?

Because certain people (I won't mention any aliases) are trying to bring it all over here. Mexico is a hellhole that needs serious fixing --- importing the slums of Mexico City and Ciudad Juarez to the USA isn't the way to fix it.

"Any word on a response from the Brits?"

Nope but, they don't seem to be taking it too seriously.

Wrong, smartypants!

If you open the blog item, you will notice that it links to this very news item. I just posted the one before the other.

Chavez must be destroyed. Simple.

Even a Gaelic gal living near the tsunami wastelands knows how to handle this one.

> This ain't nothing. Wait 'til the Red Chinese start doing this to American businesses/Joint Ventures in China as they say "Thank guys for your help, we'll take it from here".

This is why I will never invest a dime in China until the communists fall - hard. Everything's grand in good time. But when things take a down turn, you'll see how much protection "private property" has. In the West, it's correctly described as a "human right" - that you own what you produce or buy. There, it's just a "current way of doing business."

A whole lot of people stand to lose tons of money if they flip the deal over there.

Anyone who invests in Latin America is out of his skull. Some countries are safe for some years, but there's hardly a country south of the border where property isn't expropriated sooner or later.

Read Joseph Conrad's "Nostromo," in which it can be seen that this sort of thing has been going on for well over a hundred years. (In addition to which, it's Conrad's greatest novel.) First there's a right-wing dictator, and then there's a left-wing dictator, and neither of these types has any respect for law or property.

Interesting you brought that up - I was thinking of that, too. It's definitely at least part about Venezuela.

If we are going to continue to allow brainless Jimmuh Cahtuh to go running around the world giving his irrelevant opinions on whether elections were valid (generally Jimmuh Peanuts approves elections in which the result is maximum tyranny trun by liberals in a hurry), the least we can do is bring back Pinochet, give him American citizenship, give him total immunity and authority to put troops to revise the results in hellholes like Chavez's Venezuela. There is nothing wrong with Ugo Chavez that Messrs. Smith and Wesson could not cure.

You need to check your facts, Breton. The entire ranch is being confiscated over a 3000-acre dispute that courts in the past had ruled in favor of for the ranch.

What is going on right this minute is zimbabwification of venezuela. This will be a national disaster.
