ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- America is an unusually upbeat and optimistic country. A new Harris Poll finds that Americans are more likely than Europeans to say that their lives have improved over the last five years, and to expect that their lives will improve in the future. This is true whether they are thinking of their personal lives, their employment or financial situations, or their countries' economies.
These are the conclusions reached when the results of a survey of 2,092 American adults who were surveyed online by Harris Interactive(R) between December 8 and 15, 2004 are compared with the results of a Eurobarometer survey of the 25 countries of the European Union, which was conducted in February and March 2004.
These differences between the United States and Europe apply not only to Europe as a whole but to comparisons with all of the larger, and most of the smaller, European countries.

If people want on or off this list, please let me know.
Americans are more likely to look to a higher power than Europeans and unlike the Europeans, Americans are not suffering from socialism disease.
Well duh! Bunch of sour pussed cranky people from the top down.
I believe that you should consider adding "and worthless" to your tagline.
Thank you
Sounds like they polled a lot of Freepers with the trolls and doomer/gloomers being the real minority, they are.

Not too big of a shock. When you're still trying to act as though you run the world, without having the power to do so, you're making an emotional investment in something that will only bring you dissapointment and angre.
In my nearly 20 years in the business world, I have yet to meet a successful person with a negative attitude.
I can speak from personal experience that once I got the negativity out of my live and started thinking positively, good things started to happen immediately. It did mean keeping some distance from some friends and family that were "dragging me down."
And above all, don't make other people's problems your problems.
I'm sure the Eurinals think it's because we Americans are too stupid to know how desperately unhappy we really are.

The EU could copy the Australian-American model of acting quickly and effectively to save lives, or they could copy the UN model of meeting at a leisurely pace to plan for the possibility of setting up a coordination center that will consider making a plan for the possibility of an operations center to consider beginning to request support for the tsunami's victims. Ah, my wise friends, guess which model of "action" the EU chose? No need to emulate those "cowboys" from Australia and the USA with their airplanes and loading crews working round-the-clock; oh, no, much too tacky, sweaty and dirty. No need to feed into the system those goofy Aussiyankeebushowardian New World Anglo-Saxons already have created. No, they'll follow the much more elegant Kofi Annan model. A couple of EU planners have shown up to begin making arrangements for an assessment team to arrive, etc., etc., you know the rest. Meanwhile, people die.
Europeans are headed for a bloodbath with their Muslim occupiers. They should be pessimistic.
Always has been - a direct reason for the position we hold in the world. Of course you need to factor in the DUmmies and the rest of the Dimos that keep us amused and upbeat......
Nah! France will just surrender. :^)
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
No wonder why there's been a spate of declining birth rate articles. When you're depressed, you don't feel like making any babies.
This survey was taken up between December 8th and 15th, 2004. RIGHT AFTER BUSH WAS RE-ELECTED. Any questions?
