~ Saturday Night Jukebox ~
Theme: Tribute To Elvis Presley

The FR Canteen Saturday Night Jukebox Proudly Presents:
A Tribute To The King of Rock N Roll -- Elvis Presley!
Today (January 8th) would have marked Elvis' 70th birthday.
In tribute to him, we are going to take a short journey through his life and music! If you would like to join the fun, please post anything Elvis today. If you would prefer to hear other music, please post all the requests on the thread, via FReepmail, or email us at canteenusa@canteenusa.com with "Music Request" in the subject line.

As always, please remember that the Canteen Music Dedication has always been about the Troops and their families.

Elvis Aaron Presley
Born: January 8th, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi
Parents: Gladys and Vernon Presley
Siblings: Jesse Presley (died at birth)
Children: Lisa Marie Presley born February 1, 1968
Died: August 16, 1977 in Memphis, Tennessee
Cause of Death: cardiac arrhythmia

  1. Known as the "King Of Rock"
  2. It is estimated that Elvis Presley has sold over one billion record units worldwide, more than anyone in record industry history. (From elvis.com)
  3. The only tours outside of America were all in Canada.
  4. Elvis has had no less than 149 songs to appear on Billboard’s Hot 100 Pop Chart in America.
  5. He was also a leading artist in the American country, R&B, and gospel fields, and his chart success in other countries was substantial.
  6. In 1961, Elvis gave a benefit concert at Bloch Arena in Hawaii that raised over $65,000 toward the building of the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.
  7. The 1984 W.C. Handy Award from the Blues Foundation in Memphis recognized Elvis for "keeping the blues alive in his music - rock and roll."
  8. In 1986, Elvis was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. His presenters were none other than Sean and Julian Lennon--the sons of John Lennon.
  9. Is a direct descendant of Abraham Lincoln's great-great grandfather, Isaiah Harrison.
  10. One of only a handful of artists inducted into both The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and The Country Music Hall of Fame. Others include Johnny Cash and Hank Williams.
  11. The Beatles were admirers of his work and although John Lennon said they enjoyed his company very much, Elvis himself, ironically, thought that the Beatles were a bad influence on America's youth.
  12. More people watched _Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii (1973)_ (live Via Satellite TV special) than watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon.
  13. In 1975 he purchased a poor black East Memphis woman an electric wheel chair and picked her up and personally sat her in it. The woman's teenage daughter told Elvis she liked his car. He gave it to her and even gave her boyfriend a job.

More info about Elvis will be posted throughout the music dedication. Also, all the information can be found at www.elvis.com and www.imdb.com . There are hundreds of other places with Elvis info and pictures.

Just alittle more trivia, Elvis was the king of Rock-n-Roll however he never won a grammy for rock. All of his Grammies were for gospel.

Fawnn's Winter Adventure Continues
8 Jan. 2004

The shed after the ice storm, and now with the ice and today's snow.

The car after the ice storm, and now with the ice and today's snow.

This reminds me of my school days --
when, after walking miles and miles uphill to the old no-room schoolhouse,
I'd sit barefoot at my desk.
(It was either buy clothes or shoes,
and mom taught me to be more modest about my body.) ;)

The view of my front yard as seen through the screen door.
(I can't get the door all the way open --
and because I still can't afford shoes,
I chose to stay inside.) ;)

Life's rough on the west coast of Ohio!

But not as rough as elsewhere:
My sister (ur not the boss) just got power back after being without for 54 hours.

My daughter got power back last night at 6 p.m.
She fixed the family a sausage and freedom toast brunch today
and then the power went out again.

My power was only out around 3 hours this morning.
(In an all-electric home, it got a bit nippy in here.)

In other news, my nephew has been in Miami and Key West all week,
but he leaves there today WHEN HE GETS ON THE CRUISE SHIP!
He called and expected sympathy because he's in shorts and a t-shirt
and still sweaty. Poor baby!

End of the saga so far today.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled Elvis!

Gummy, I want that chair and computer stand!!! We did hours of moving 2003 files into storage boxes and putting 2005 folders in their place on Thursday. Friday, and even more today, I ache all over. Sleeping even turned out to be a problem. I couldn't find a place to be comfortable. Much tossing and turning, after crashing at the computer. ARGHHH!!
