Bursting into a New Brunswick apartment armed with a gun and boxcutters, four masked men had robbery on their minds, expecting a group of Rutgers University students would be easy pickings for cash and marijuana, a prosecuting attorney told a jury in Middlesex County yesterday.
Screaming obscenities and ordering their victims to lie face- down on the living room floor, the men quickly turned the break-in into an opportunity to sexually assault three of their sobbing victims, First Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor William Lamb said.
One woman was attacked as her friends watched in terror, and the other two were led into bedrooms, where they were raped, according to the prosecuting attorney
The prosecuting attorney said DNA evidence proved two of the alleged accomplices took part in the sex attacks, but there was no genetic evidence against Heard
One of the sex crime victims, now a 21-year-old senior at Rutgers, fought back tears briefly as she told the jury one of the men cut her jeans as she lay on the floor and then forced her on her knees and ordered her to perform oral sex on him.
"I did what he told me to do," the petite woman said.
At one point, someone pressed a gun to his head and asked, "How's it feel to have a .32 against your head?" he testified.
Corbin, during a brief address to the jury, said Heard was falsely implicated because he sports a huge afro hairstyle that later was recognizable to police. But, the defense lawyer said, there is no evidence to link Heard to the sex attacks.
After fleeing the apartment, the assailants began making calls on the stolen cell phones, Lamb said, noting police traced the men after learning through phone records they called for a taxi shortly after the crime.

I *knew* there was something about that guy.
"Of course. Black men can't rape white women."
Or prostitute our teenager girls.
Parents: watch over your children. Be always aware with whom they're hanging with. And, most importantly, know that friendship or acquaintances with certain characters should always be forbidden.
I'm a grad student at Rutgers and live about a mile from where this happened. It's very scary and I'm glad they caught the guys who did it. Earlier articles I read about the crime in the local papers gave the impression that the break-in was more drug related than this article suggests. That had made me feel a little safer, because I'm not involved in drugs, but now the unease is back as it sounds like these folks were targeted simply for being students.
At one point, someone pressed a gun to his head and asked, "How's it feel to have a .32 against your head?" he testified.
Out of context excerpting.
Another witness, Justin Lang, a 22-year-old senior, said the group returned from a popular college bar, the Olive Branch, after celebrating the friend's birthday. He said he was on the living room couch when the men walked in to the first-floor apartment shortly before 2:30 a.m. yelling "Give us your money. Give us all the money you have."
"I gave them the money that I had, one dollar," he said, adding the men covered his face with a shirt so he could not look at them, rounded up the rest of the party guests and herded them into the bathroom.
At one point, Lang said, he tried to call 911 on his cell phone, but one of the assailants saw him, grabbed the phone and punched him in the nose, drawing blood.
The group was brought to the living room and forced face-down onto the floor, Lang said. At one point, someone pressed a gun to his head and asked, "How's it feel to have a .32 against your head?" he testified.
Clemenza was born in New Brunswick. His parents were smart enough to move when he was three months old.
Get a grip.
Please be safe, college students shouldn't have to live in fear
You mean, UNARMED, WHITE, VULNERABLE, SUBURBAN students.
Those perps knew exactly who they were targeting..(profiling) remember the police can't profile but the criminal can.
Yea, I know, the police are there to protect everyone at all times so we don't need to defend ourselves.
Like the guy's cell phone really helped to save the day but what else could he do?
It's a shame students and anyone else in the inner cities of NJ have to live like this. In fear.
This teacher did NOT live and tried psychology, pleading and a tape recorder to save her life, it didn't work.
Slain NJ Teacher's Tape Reveals More Evidence, Too Bad She Did Not Have a GUN!!
My heart goes out to the young lady who had to do what she was told to do. In a free society, this young lady would have been able to own and use a gun to defend herself.
Wouldn't it have been great if just one of the victims had been able to draw a weapon and blow these idiots off the face of the earth before any harm came to them!
" and as usual, no hate crime charges were levied."
Doesn't take much imagination to visualize what the media , Jesse and the rest of the usual culprits would be
doing if it had been white guys who had done this to blacks . Sick to death of all these double standards that exist . We're all supposed to be equal , right ? Then why the hell is it that hate crimes can be committed by whites ???
Should have read ..." Then why the hell is it that hate crimes can be committed ONLY by whites ???
I was a student at Rutgers and we lived off campus one year in a baaaad neighborhood. We were robbed once (took stuff from the garage while we were in the house) and a second time they tried to kick our door in, splintering it while we were out. This was within the first couple of months there. Two of my housemates were into hunting and started to sit out front and make a big show of cleaning their shotguns. Never had another incident after that.
"... the police are there to protect everyone at all times so we don't need to defend ourselves..."
The police will tell you they CANNOT protect you from crime, they will only RESPOND to a crime already committed
my friend made a lot of money selling security windows to colleges, there a lot of crime on college campuses.
Forgive me, but where exactly does the article make mention of the racial characteristics of either the victims or the assailants?
"Forgive me, but where exactly does the article make mention of the racial characteristics of either the victims or the assailants?"
It doesn't, but a good rule is that if it doesn't mention the race, it is black on white crime.
Forgive me, but where exactly does the article make mention of the racial characteristics of either the victims or the assailants? >>>
It doesn't
Forgive me, but where exactly does the article make mention of the racial characteristics of either the victims or the assailants?
It doesn't
You are forgiven
As a media monitor, I'm forced to observe: "Fascinating!"
If I were a local, I'd probably research the background of the authors of the earlier articles to see where they were coming from.
