As the Asian quake and tsunami death toll topped 100,000 and is rising, President Bush said the United States' initial grant of $35 million in SE Asia was 'only the beginning of our aid.' He said the United States, India, Australia and Japan have formed an international coalition to coordinate worldwide relief and reconstruction efforts for the Asian region. Aid agencies today warned disease will also cause massive casualties among the survivors as the biggest relief effort in history began.
The president took issue with Jan Egeland, the United Nations' emergency relief coordinator who called the US "stingy" in regard to helping other nations. (Egeland later said his remarks were misinterpreted.) Bush noted that the United States provided $2.4 billion "in food, in cash, in humanitarian relief to cover the disasters for last year. ... That's 40 percent of all the relief aid given in the world last year."
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!
And I'd love to know who PAID for that so-called 'counselling' for that bad, bad person and his bad, bad wife? HMMMM, could it be, the taxpayers????
And while he was having "counselling", just who was assessing the threats against America? And he has the NERVE to criticize our President for being on VACATION during the disaster in Asia???
Gets my hackles up jsut to think about it.
I hit post too quickly a minute ago. Meant to ask How are you Starwise? Have a nice holiday, and are you adjusting to Chi-town more?
Ha, ha. It just seemed like four years, snugs. I've had repair jobs like that too.
Yes I think you are right there it did seem that the poor man would not be able to clear the blockage and I had visions of the local council and water board etc having to be involved the next day.
I have just gone over to broadband through top box on our cable TV setup with my internet connection and wow am I noticing a difference just watched the new Barney Cam and it was a joy to watch without it having to re-connect and keep downloading as it waa under the old dial up.
Thanks, prairie ... had a most WONDERFUL Christmas with the family in Mass. Came back with a killer cold .. but I'm due to start my job Monday, thank God. I'm VERY excited. Blessings for the New Year.
I'm so glad to hear that your grandaughter and her friend are doing better!
So it sounds like Ramsey is, and always has been a Communist.
Hmmmm? That's a good guess!
Yesterday was SwatTeam's
.
I think there's plenty of evidence that in his case that isn't just a euphemism, it's a fact. That is a dangerous, dangerous man who should have been put away as a traitor years ago.
.
That last post was for you ... sorry
I'm not sure exactly what Clinton said .. it was the Washington Compost who was quoting Clinton complaining that there should be an organized effort - not just everybody thinking they were in charge and then nobody was really in charge.
Of course, the Bush WH didn't make public that Bush was talking to all these other leaders and that the USA, Japan, Australia and India had already agreed to work as a team. Serves them right to get caught with egg on their face one more time.
To me it was just another attempt by the Clintons to try to position Bush as inept and incapable of doing what's right. I loved Charles Krauthammer's comeback about Rwanda - it was HOT (talk is cheap - action is what counts) - and nobody on the panel said a word. It was really funny. Even Williams had to admit that Clinton bungled Rwanda.
.
That wasn't the Wellstone memorial .. it was the Ron Brown funeral.
You are more reserved than I am. I simply cannot sit and let ANYONE talk bad about President Bush. Of course, I'm diplomatic about it because I don't want to be as mean spirited as they are, but I get my point across. I started a few years ago, not allowing the libs to just run their mouths while I sat there quietly, in order to keep peace. If they can dish it out, they can expect something back from me. If I thought kindness would win them over, I would stay quiet, but since it doesn't and just emboldens them, I give back as good as I get anymore--just in a nicer way than they're capable of.
Hahahaha!!!!! That would be wierd..NEWSFLASH: PRESIDENT BUSH ABDUCTED BY TORNADO
I remember when he was 'treating' with the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam war, and then with the Ayatolla Khomeini and his murderous thugs in Iran while our folks were being held hostage.
i have no use for the man, and neither does this country.
There was a Statement by the Whitehouse on Saturday 26th December 2004 in which the President was quoting as giving his sincere condolences.
