The White House is blasting former President Clinton for trying to upstage President Bush with a "we feel your pain" condolence message to the victims of the deadly Indian Ocean tsunami that struck Christmas weekend.
Reacting to complaints that Bush was missing in action in the wake of the disaster, White House spokesman Trent Duffy told reporters Tuesday, "The president wanted to be fully briefed on our efforts [before speaking out]. He didn't want to make a symbolic statement about 'We feel your pain.' " The "feel your pain" reference was a direct slap at President Clinton, who had irked administration officials by beating Bush to the punch with comments on the disaster - and stealing the media limelight in the process.
Noted the Washington Post:
"In Britain, the predominant U.S. voice speaking about the disaster was not Bush but former president Bill Clinton, who in an interview with the BBC said the suffering was like something in a 'horror movie,' and urged a coordinated international response."
"It is really important that somebody take the lead in this," Clinton told the BBC, in a thinly veiled reminder of Bush's silence. "I think one of the problems is when everybody takes responsibility it's almost like no one's responsibility," he complained.
Many Bush aides believe Clinton was too quick to head for the cameras to "hold forth on tragedies with his trademark empathy," the Post added.
"Actions speak louder than words," an annoyed Bush aide told the paper.
On Wednesday President Bush announced a massive aid package for victims of the tsunami disaster.
Ex-president Clinton has yet to react.
Bubba has announced that he will personally donate sperm to the rebuilding effort.
Trent, me boy, that was an expertly placed shiv...
hillbilly is an absolute joke. God, how I hate him. (Traitor...against America and her citizens...should be in a fed pen along with his butch wife) GRRRRR!!!!!
This is yet another "manufactured" story by the Washington Post.
Can't you just see a WashPost reporter, dancing around somebody at the White House, saying "Clinton has spoken, why hasn't Bush? Huh? Huh? Huh?"
I feel Clinton's pain....everytime I sit down!!
======
Why are you sitting on Clinton's face ??? ;-))
bttt
As bad as we are, we are as good as you are as bad as we are. Please return to the nurses desk for your holier than thou crown. :)
clinton went into action as he always does. Blah, blah, blah... get my name in the papers... then nothing of substance.
This is pure conjecture (surprise, surprise) on the part of Newsmax; of course, Carl hates Bush, too.
F***ing Amen to that.
And keep in mind this is the very same Bill Clinton who in 1994, stood idly by while one million Rwandans were slaughtered. And he was in a position to do something to avoid that tragedy.
That should be amended to say just pretending that you care is enough...LOL!
I think you're right. Clinton would be perfect for the job...His ability to sound serious and compassionate while not doing anything of substance, and his ability to milk a system for corrupt gain. He'd be the perfect UN General Secty.
From DU:
Anyway, my friend says that his friend (whose friend is friends with the guy who used to be in the Navy) told him that the US might have set off nuke devices in Sumatra to start the earthquake that caused the tidal wave in order to distract the DU'ers from finding out about the rigged vote in Ohio (and the voter supression).
That's why * has been so quiet about this, he doesn't want to be in the news a whole lot since he knows that if he is in the news it might just remind the DU'ers that he is not really President
Is there any law against giving a former Oral Office occupant a wedgie? Is there any law against sending this Rat Basstocrat a giant cork to put in his fat face?
You just knew they'd make this Bush's fault.....
Maybe it is just me, but I'm a bit ticked that Newsmax used the term "Bushies" in a headline.
No class, little credibility. Would it be tacky to inquire if 'Batjack' is still on staff?
