Recipe for a Happy New Year

To leave the old with a burst of song
To recall the right and forgive the wrong;
To forget the thing that binds you fast
To the vain regrets of the year that's past;
To have the strength to let go your hold
Of the not worthwhile of the days grown old,
To dare to go forth with a purpose true,
To the unknown task of the year that's new;
To help your brother along the road
To do his work and lift his load;
To add your gift to the world's good cheer,
Is to have and to give a Happy New Year.

On this Day in History
1170 Thomas Beckett, Archbishop of Canterbury was assassinated by knights of King Henry II; Beckett and the King had been engaged in a conflict over the rights and privileges of the Church

On this Day in History

1845 Texas was admitted to the Union as the 28th state

On this Day in History
1848 The Polk administration installed gas lights, the first light fixtures at the White House

Don't forget the syrup!

Step away from the cat file...

Kathy, I have two that are inseparable.

He justs loves her and they sleep
together in the chair on the porch
every evening. He watches the other
cats as they eat, then he eats later.

God made them that way I guess.

Kitty chow??

This is for all you cooks out there looking
for something a little different.

WANT TO HAVE FUN AT A PARTY? PREPARE THIS RECIPE! COMPLETELY EDIBLE, BUT YOUR FRIENDS MAY NOT THINK SO!

On a recent visit to our veterinarian to get shots for our cat I found this recipe on the waiting room bulletin board. After recovering from hysterical laughter, I obtained a copy from the office staff so that my wife could make it, which she refused to do. I took it to work and gave the recipe to a lady at work who loves cats. The pictures below show the results of her work. It doesn't look very nice, but it's actually quite tasty, so I decided to pass it along.

CAKE INGREDIENTS

1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 box of white cake mix
1 package white sandwich cookies
1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix
A few drops green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent

SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS"

1 NEW cat-litter box
1 NEW cat-litter box liner
1 NEW pooper scooper

Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside.

When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the
mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.

Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape
the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top.

Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper. Enjoy!

"Kitty Litter Cake" Ewwwwwww!

Lawmakers Chide Rumsfeld for Auto-Signed Sympathy Letters

Below is the email I sent to President Bush December 19th, regarding Rumsfeld:

Subject: Regarding Donald Rumsfeld: my support for him .....

My Dear President Bush:

I have been a supporter of yours since you ran for Texas Governor. I voted for you both times for Governor and twice now for President of this great country.

When you announced Donald Rumsfeld as your Secretary of Defense I was elated at such a great pick for that responsibility. I felt he was highly qualified for the position. I still feel that same way.

The last few weeks or so, Donald Rumsfeld has come under sharp attacks by both the media and political opponents from BOTH sides of the aisle. I am appalled by the attacks and disagree. Donald Rumsfeld is doing a great job and I write you to give him 100% support.

I don't write to you very often unless I feel strongly about an issue. This is one of those and I wanted you to know how I felt about this.

While I'm at it, let me extend my hearty congratulations for your re-election victory on November 2nd. Keep up the GREAT job you are doing. And please, SPEND that political capital!

I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years!

Sincerely,

MeekOneGOP

Good evening to all at the Canteen!

Thank you Military men and Canteen guyz for the inviting blaze in the fireplace. It looks like one of the Canteen kitties has beaten us all to the punch on front row relaxation. LOL!

To all our military men and women past and present, military family members, and to our allies who stand beside us
Thank You!

I hope everyone is doing fine and dandy this evening! Getting all geared up for New Year's Eve?
Our household has been suffering major sinus inflammation the past several days which is why I've been MIA. Bright light hurts and the monitor is definitely bright. LOL! Got these poor eyes a-waterin' right now.
I hope the rains Friday will wash the salt out of the air so I'll be able to make it to the New Year's Eve bash! Been "shopping" and have a couple of new gowns that I hope will get me a dance or two with our handsome Canteen fellas. *grin*

*HUGZ* all 'round!
