Recipe for a Happy New Year

To leave the old with a burst of song
To recall the right and forgive the wrong;
To forget the thing that binds you fast
To the vain regrets of the year that's past;
To have the strength to let go your hold
Of the not worthwhile of the days grown old,
To dare to go forth with a purpose true,
To the unknown task of the year that's new;
To help your brother along the road
To do his work and lift his load;
To add your gift to the world's good cheer,
Is to have and to give a Happy New Year.

On this Day in History
1170 Thomas Beckett, Archbishop of Canterbury was assassinated by knights of King Henry II; Beckett and the King had been engaged in a conflict over the rights and privileges of the Church

On this Day in History

1845 Texas was admitted to the Union as the 28th state

On this Day in History
1848 The Polk administration installed gas lights, the first light fixtures at the White House

Don't forget the syrup!

Hi Kathy,
No snow on Saturday, it turned out to be a bright and sunny day. There was a terrible accident on the Capital Beltway, however, on the way home. The opposite direction had a Medivac on the ground as we drove past, a car was on its roof in the center of the road. It was pretty bad, and had a six or seven mile backup on the Beltway. We (wife and I) certainly hope the folks there turn out okay.
And then, the storm that got Mojo and the rest of the East Coast went right around us, not even a flurry!

Hazelnut Tree (Extraordinary) - charming, sense of humour, very demanding but can also be very understanding, knows how to make a lasting impression, active fighter for social causes and politics, popular, quite moody, sexually oriented, honest, a perfectionist, has a precise sense of judgment and expects complete fairness.

The quite moody is on target today, so I'm too moody to determine if the other stuff is correct or not. ;)

Hi Trussell! Hi y'all! I'm at work today...using the eeenternet here. We had such bad rain last night that the phone lines are down in the whole area (neighborhood?).

So? During the day today may be my only chance to be here.

Youse guys and girls behave now! :)

My late husband was an apple tree. If you're anywhere as nice as he was, you're good people! ;)

A good argument between friends can be fun. Sometimes it depends on the friend, but do you know what I mean?

Pronoid is opposite of paranoid. A pronoid believes compliments people give them. Be a believer; it is the right thing to do.

I know! I hate it when it happens. Unfortunately, moody isn't necessarily logical. :)

For example, it started out with a burned-out light bulb, and went from there. That and I'm overwhelmed trying to make decisions about a new computer, my head hurts worse today, etc. (I'll end making the list now so I don't get moodier, and go back to counting my blessings to counter this moody crap. LOL)

I get that way once a month...

I'd tell you that my moods aren't that regular anymore, but that'd be TMI. LOL

when I see the radio show's ratings!

Actually, I did get my "ratings" for some of the work I do, and they were MUCH higher than I expected, so you'd think I'd cheer up already. ;)

Of course, because good news never seems to arrive all by itself, I also have some guy who wrote me two VERY LENGTHY e-mails about what an idiot I am (telling me point-by-point what he thinks is wrong with one of my books). I'm working my way up to how to deal with those.

"two VERY LENGTHY e-mails"

I always print out those kind and use them to light the kindling in the fireplace .

Makes the idiot's e-mails worth something!

Here is how to deal with that guy... Ask him how many books he has had published.. Then you may wish to explain to him that in America we demand choice... there is something for everyone.. Hmmmf. (What a jerk!) :]

You could always counter every point with one phrase: Kiss my A@@! But, as good as that may feel, it probably won't solve the issue. On the other hand, the military has a great saying (I'm sure it crosses all branches), "There is no problem that a sufficient amount of firepower can't solve".

SO YOU KNOW EVERYTHING?

A dime has 118 ridges around the edge.

A cat has 32 muscles in each ear.

A crocodile cannot stick out its tongue.

A dragonfly has a life span of 24 hours.

A goldfish has a memory span of three seconds.
