What we can learn from the Japanese internment in our searching for Islamists - (Quotes Malkin)

For years, it has been my position that the threat of radical Islam implies an imperative to focus security measures on Muslims. If searching for rapists, one looks only at the male population. Similarly, if searching for Islamists (adherents of radical Islam), one looks at the Muslim population.

And so, I was encouraged by a just-released Cornell University opinion survey that finds nearly half the U.S. population agreeing with this proposition. Specifically, 44 percent of Americans believe that government authorities should direct special attention toward Muslims living in the United States, either by registering their whereabouts, profiling them, monitoring their mosques, or infiltrating their organizations.

Also encouraging, the survey finds the more a person follows television news, the more likely he supports these common-sense steps. Those who are best informed about current issues, in other words, are also the most sensible about adopting self-evident defensive measures.

Yeah, lets round up American citizens and hold them indefinitely without a trial when they haven't committed any crime. While we're at it, lets piss on and shred the Constitution.

Actually, profiling makes no sense whatsoever. If every U.S. law enforcement agency were to profile Middle Easterners as a matter of course, they'd overlook people such as Johnny Lindh, the D.C. snipers, that Adam Whats-His-Name from California who is now an al-Qaeda operative, etc.

Oh, and Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichol, too.

Terrorists may be a lot of things, but "stupid" usually isn't one of them. The use of "profiling" may sound like a good idea, but all it really does is eliminate a substantial number of potential suspects from the radar screen.

But this time let's have the federal government disarm them.

And use their religion as the reason for punishing them.

Consider it "reaching out" to liberals.

Didn't the Japanese regard Japan's emporer as a living God? And did Japanese immigrants living in the US during internment renounce this belief?

I agree that profiling "Middle Easterners as a matter of course, they'd overlook people such as Johnny Lindh, the D.C. snipers, that Adam Whats-His-Name from California who is now an al-Qaeda operative, etc." is inneffective.

One should instead profile MUSLIMS, especially CONVERTS to islam like the idiots above.

The tragedy is that during the WWII our Japanese Americans citizens were all screaming in the streets to any one who listened that they are in support of America, and America only! Our American Muslims, however, have never showed such declaration! They housed and helped the terrorists, and have never spoken forcefully or clearly about their support for the US, and their hate for the Islamic terrorists, and the Muslim countries that support such barbaric savagery.

It is clear that our sensitivity to our minorities have made these Muslim citizens bold, and expecting their "CIVIL RIGHTS" without delivering their citizen duties to their adopted country. It is only fair that these people should be sent back to their country of origin, and that we should STOP visas to ALL Muslims from anywhere.

Once the dust settles, and the mullahs start to preach peaceful coexistence. Once countries like Saudi Arabia, and Iran starts to allow us to build churches in their countries. Once the Muslim media stop calling us the big Satan. Once the Muslim/non-Muslim intellectuals become free to criticize Islam on their TV as our intellectuals criticize Christianity without death threats. Once their people can convert to Christianity without fearing "GOVERNMENT" persecution. THEN, and only then we should allow free flow of their barbaric cult into our nation. Only then we will have freedom of religion as it was intended to mean. Right now Muslim nations are spending "Billions" of dollars proselytizing Islam in the West, and building Mosques as they deny same to the West.

I have a few questions for you if you don't mind.

What is an American citizen, or what constitutes an American citizen?

When does one lose their American citizenship or can they?

How is the U.S. government supposed to keep track of all converts to Islam?

I'll take a comment I read on a similar thread and expand it a bit . . . A government that disarms its citizenry as a matter of course and can't even control our nation's southern border has no business "profiling" anyone.

Leftist and Islamist organizations have so successfully intimidated public opinion that polite society shies away from endorsing a focus on Muslims.

No problem here. I am not that polite and don't really care if I hurt the feelings of the terrorists and their symapathizers at the ACLU.

Lets just call it "criminal profiling," profile the Muslims, and be done with it.

"How is the U.S. government supposed to keep track of all converts to Islam?"

Well, I would start with: (1) the phone list of the mosques; (2) anyone who took a tax deduction for giving to a muslim charity (and/or their contributor lists); and (3) running the plates of the cars in the mosque parking lots.

Sure, you might miss a few, but that would be a start.

Indeed, since one is hunting Zelots (no pun intended) and not two-percenters, I would suspect that they would go to the mosque a lot, making the job pretty easy.

Thanks so much for such a thoughtful, realistic response.

"It is clear that our sensitivity to our minorities have made these Muslim citizens bold, and expecting their "CIVIL RIGHTS" without delivering their citizen duties to their adopted country. It is only fair that these people should be sent back to their country of origin, and that we should STOP visas to ALL Muslims from anywhere."

Read post 10. The constitution did not say that foreign governments can fund billions of dollars to proselytize Islam to our people, and build mosques in every town, yet Muslim nations will not reciprocate the same favor to us. One of their citizen converts to Christianity, and "BY LAW" he will be punished, yet they dump millions of dollars on our prisons to convert black American to Islam, and tell them to hate America too. Now you got to be very simple minded and even stupid to think that such behaviors have anything to do with the constitution or civil rights. It is simply one way to disaster. Once the fifth column is big enough you can kiss your country good by.

They were all screaming that they support America and America only?

I don't think they were all screaming. While the US government knew that 90 % of the people interned were innocent, I wouldn't go as far to say they were screaming " USA! All the way!" The Japanese regarded their Emperor as a living God. After World War II the US had him renounce that position. But During World War II, are we to assume that Japanese-American citizens were loyal to the US and the US only when their God was living in Japan... I don't think so.
