HONG KONG - Action star Jet Li injured his foot as he protected his daughter from tsunami waves that flooded his hotel in the Maldives, Hong Kong newspapers reported Tuesday.

Li, who played the villain in 1998's "Lethal Weapon 4," was with his daughter in the hotel's lobby Sunday when huge waves gushed into the hotel, the Apple Daily newspaper reported, quoting a friend vacationing with Li.
He slightly injured his foot while picking up his daughter, the report said. Ming Pao Daily News reported Li struck his foot against a floating piece of furniture.
The death toll across 11 nations from Asia's devastating tsunamis was estimated Tuesday at around 44,000. Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Somalia were among the countries struck by massive waves.
Li made his name in Hong Kong as a martial arts film star before moving on to Hollywood. His screen credits include "Romeo Must Die" and "Hero."

On the Net:
In all honesty, I pictured a Chinese passenger jet screaming down the tarmac, mere inches ahead of a curving wall of water sweeping after it. Sounds like a great action movie scene. Never heard of Jet Li.
I hope you're not actually comparing this actor with Pat Tillman.
Uh oh...here's another "celebrity" who lived.
This will surely upset some people.
These are the KNOWN people; there are thousands of unkowns we will never read about.
Perhaps, just perhaps, some airhead will read THIS story and give a damn for a change.
Oy vey! Pat Tillman gave up millions of dollars because of the duty that he felt towards his country. That is a remarkable story in and of itself in this day and age.
Jet Li happened to be in harm's way when a tragedy struck and picked up his own daughter.
Jet Li ping.
I fully understand that celebrities are KNOWN people and that airheads pay more attention to them. That's why we have PEOPLE magazine and that's why I don't read it.
Again this is a story about Jet Li PICKING UP his own daughter. Is there something particularly heroic about that that I'm missing?
Jet Li happened to be in harm's way when a tragedy struck and picked up his own daughter."
So, lemme see if I got this straight.... you'd be happier if he'd picked up his daughter and then given away all his money ?
Not everyone here, of course, but it's definitely discernable. I'm not sure whether it's class envy or some other sort of schadenfreude.
In any event, it's not terribly becoming.
Before I get too sanctimonious, though, I admit that I'd love a story about Alec Baldwin being stuck in a tree for a few hours.
Well, if it upsets you that much, I'm having trouble wondering why you clicked on this thread.
Well, the model has a broken pelvis and her boy friend is probably dead and that wasn't enough for some to qualify as her being involved, so I guess this guy saving his daughter doesn't either.
I thought I was on the lost luggage thread.
What if it was Mel Gibson?
Would you scorn the media for reporting his survival?
Exactly.
Nope. Thanks for playing, though.
That's just plain silly. (Everyone on Freerepublic knows that Mel Gibson walks on water.)
