Rep. Tom Tancredo makes some good points. Unfortunately the American people just don't agree.

Pop quiz: What is the second largest economic sector in Mexico? That's right, after oil, it is income from laborers in "El Norte". Americans pay for these workers, therefore they want them here. To say otherwise is to deny the last 30 years and the illegal workers who are here in the millions.

RUTHERFORD INSTITUTE.COM ^ | DECEMBER 13, 2004 | JOHN W. WHITEHEAD
As an American, I have always been inspired by the fact that my country welcomes those who seek refuge. And as long as our government officials maintain our borders and ensure that those coming from other countries are screened in order to protect those who legally live here, the concept of welcoming immigrants is a noble one. However, something has gone awry. Indeed, illegal immigration into the U.S. has become an immense problem and a clear and present danger. Documented illegal immigration has more than doubled in the last decade. It has grown, by conservative counts, from 3.5 million in...

Homeland Security Should Protect Us Against Diseases (Spread Of Deadly Diseases By Illegals)

Homeland Security Should Protect Us From Diseases by Phyllis Schlafly, December 1, 2004 Media headlines are blaming the House leadership for preventing passage of the giant Intelligence bill designed to restructure homeland security, but negotiations bogged down on the question of what to do about illegal aliens. How can we protect homeland security unless the government stops the invasion of illegal aliens? Senate negotiators refused to agree to stop the entry of 4,000 illegals a day across our southern border, including OTMs (Other Than Mexicans) from the Middle East. This refusal to face reality makes ridiculous the regulations that immigrants,...

Bush is 100 percent wrong on immigration.

As for the "impossibility" of properly policing our border with Mexico, can anyone doubt that we would get the job done if it was publicly, unambiguously known that Al Qaeda was using the border to infiltrate terrorists into the US?

The sad fact is, AQ is almost certainly doing this now!

For the life of me I've not been able to put my finger on why GWB wants to give illegal aliens a hand up by softening border vigilance other than regional government with Mexico and Canada until this morning.

Since the American birth rate has been falling, could this be a method to save Social Security by inviting a foreign population growth - But at what other sacrifice, Mr. President?

Perhaps the better way to pave the way for more revenue is to outlaw abortion, and to close our borders!

Mr. Bush wants to allow illegal aliens - up to 8 million if not more - to hold jobs here "legally" by issuing "temporary worker cards." American workers would not be hurt, the president insists; these legalized illegals would fill jobs that U.S. firms supposedly can't fill.

With all due respect Mr. President I think you're doing a Bubba imitation and are trying to put one over on us for one reason or another.

Allow me to share a bit of history with you, Sir. At the beginning of WWII our armed forces were lacking equipment and preparedness yet not only did our industrial might gear up to provide all necessary equipment to supply the greatest army (in the millions)the world has ever known but also helped equip our allies. At the same time the American homeland, with a few sacrifices and inconveniences still maintained the world's highest standard of living. Immigration, came to a standstill during these years and all work was done by our highly skilled workforce at home.

Mr. President, we and our allies prevailed over the two extremely capable, well equipped and determined enemies.

Here we are about sixty years later with more and more of our manufacturing facilities shutting down. More and more skilled jobs are outsourced to cheap labor markets overseas. Yes, we do have an ongoing military operation engaging less than 200,000 troops total but only about half of them are civilian soldiers pulled out from the job market.

Sir, for the life of me I don't understand why we need millions of illiterate Mexicans flowing unchecked across our borders. Our industrial base is dwindling, we don't have millions called up for military duty,so exactly what jobs are going begging for uneducated illiterate non English speaking Mexican laborers?

The worst thing about President Bush is that he not only holds bad positions on immigration policy, but also engages in leftwing-style rhetoric on the issue. That he disagrees with most conservatives, most Republicans, and most Americans on this issue is fine. Afterall, he has repeatedly said that he does not govern by polls, but he makes matters worse with his words.

First of all, he undercuts the seriousness and complexity of the issue with meaningless, empty platitudes like "family values don't stop at the Rio Grande." Its like when people quote that plaque in front of the Statue of Liberty when defending open borders -- its ridiculous and insulting.

Second; he has in the past given credence to Leftwing smears of traditional conservative positions by saying things like how he is a new type of Republican on immigration, and that he will make the GOP welcoming of immigrants. In doing this, he echoes a false characterization by the Left about conservatives being hostile to immigrants and immigration, when in fact we have simply been for serious attempts to stop illegal immigration, and for reduced -- not zero -- levels of legal immigration.

Generally speaking, its just sad to see conservatives say such things.

Dear President Bush,

You are simply not being fair. There are so many hardworking families across the globe who only want to put food on the table. Most of them are not close enough to the border of the United States to be able to illegally cross in on foot.

There are millions of hardworking, poor, good families who would gladly do the jobs even Mexicans won't do for literally pennies a day. Think of the Africans, displaced by warlords and strife, who be so grateful to work hard for their families in our land.

I find it very heartless and cruel of you, Mr. President, to only allow those whom G-d happened to place NEAREST the border to take our working class jobs here in America. Through no fault of their own, some loving, peaceful families have been placed so far from us that they can't possibly pay a coyote a grand or two to get them over the border in your approved fashion.

Shouldn't you try to be fair and perhaps send ships to collect some of the other hardworking citizens of the world and allow them to dock and release their good passengers in the dark of night at our ports, so that they might also share the benefits of lining up on street corners to do good, strong, menial labor that Americans won't do without safe employment contracts?

I know that effort will not be without cost, but since our "old-fashioned" citizens cover the costs of health care and schooling for our "guests," it wouldn't be that much more to also have them cover transport costs for the wonderful, hardworking families who will do the jobs our teens and seniors used to refuse to do without receiving minimum wage.

Yours Sincerely,
The Endangered Middle Class of America

"Family values do not stop at the Rio Grande River."

American sovereignty DOES stop at the Rio Grande, Mr. Bush.

This should be impeachable.

I have considered myself in the conservative camp since reading "Conscience of a Conservative" by Barry Goldwater before the 1964 campaign, and I cast my first presidential vote for that Arizona senator.

I support the President's proposal for regularizing the flow of Mexican workers in and out of the country. My reasons are:

(1) Demographics. World population will double by 2050 [from six to 12 billion]. The US is maintaining domestic population [at about 300 million], but not growing. With the growth worldwide coming in potentially hostile (muslim) populations, we need friendly immigrants who share our principles to maintain our position in the world. Witness the numerous non-citizen immigrants presently fighting in our armed forces in Iraq. By contrast, Europe is losing domestic population and has primarily muslim immigration.

(2) Peace and Stability. We do not want violent revolution on our southern border. Emigration to the US is a beneficial safety valve for stagnant economic growth in Mexico. Yes, economic reform in Mexico would be desireable, but that will eventually by pressed upon them by global competition (China is beating their pants off by using capitalist means, while Mexico remains too mired in socialist politics).

(3) Social Security and Economic Growth. The SS problems of a growing number of retirees compared with our working population will be eased somewhat by additional workers from Mexico, required to be on the payroll under the president's program.

(4) No Troops or Walls on the Border! Although Hilary and Bill O'Reilly may not have noticed, our troops actually do have something to do already. So they cannot be placed along the Mexican border just to help them pass their time of day. Equally importantly, we do not want armed troops using automatic weapons to keep peaceful families from coming into our country. Nor do we want walls keeping out starving families. The president is entirely right in stating that family values and human worth do not stop at the Rio Grande. We should embrace the Mexican people who come here with an industrious outlook.

President Bush is also right in saying it is simply the right thing to do.

I could go on, but I know everyone is busy. It is important that Republicans begin to understand these important points.

President Bush is proposing the right thing, and conservatives have good reasons for getting behind him to DO the right thing.

If those who employ illegals were given tickets and fined for every illegal for every day they employ them they would stop hiring illegals and the illegals would stop coming. This would change the flood of illegals coming across the border to a tricle and would leave just those involved in smuggling or some sort of criminality to pick up. It sickens me the way these supposedly Conservative commentators work overtime to sell this "Guest Worker" nonsense. Their "Put Troops on the Border" talk is just talk to make them sound like they're really tough on illegals, when what they're pushing for would bring even more of the third world here to take jobs use services and drive down wages for everyone. It's a lie that "They are only taking jobs Americans won't do." There are already exemptions for migrant agricultural workers who do the harvesting, as their should be. There should be no fines for those hiring migrant agricultural workers. Under "Guest Worker" however they wouldn't be taking just the low wage jobs. It would be any job where the employer says that they can't get enough people to apply for the job at what they are willing to pay. Might your employer like to pay less? If Rush and Bill O`Reilly love "Guest Worker" so much maybe some graduates of the University of Bombay with degrees in broadcasting can take over their jobs for much less pay.

President Bush says he wants to revamp an immigration system that is "not working" and is "not compassionate" through a program that can't work and would be anything but "compassionate" to Americans forced to pick up the tab.

Come on Mr President you are not being honest with yourself so guess where that leaves the nation.

The butt of a cruel joke that has the potential for the destruction of this nation's Sovereignty hence its Identity and finally its very existence!

Please do not continue down this path of self inflicted destruction from which there can be no reclamation of all that made this nation the magnificent and unequaled United States of America!

And for which many at this very moment are with much sacrifice and suffering dying with unquestioning loyality!

Please keep the faith with these wonderful men and women and in the name of our Holy God do not fail them!

We should all write, e-mail or call our Federal and State elected officials, especially if they are Republicans (Democrats are a waste of time), and, if possible, cc President Bush and Congressman Tom Tancredo of Colorado.

We should tell them we want no program of amnesty for illegal invaders. We do not want thje creation of a permanent underclass of foreigners who will maintain their own langauge, culture and customs to the exclusion of American ones, in order to benefit the need for cheap labor.

If there is a legitimate need to increase our quota of immigrants to aid the job market, this should be done through the historical method of increasing LEGAL allotments of immigrants.

George Bush II is totally off his rocker on this issue. He must be getting advice from his liberal father on this one.

He's right, it's "not working", but it's already the most "compassionate" immigration system in the world.
