Dear friend,
On September 21st of every year, the International Peace Day, people around the globe express their desire for a world where war and violence are things of the past and we live in harmony with the natural world. The Giant Peace Dove puppets flown by young people and the young at heart in cities, towns, and villages near and far are a symbol and celebration of this yearning for peace.
I hope you will choose to be a part of this special day. Last year, peace doves flew in 23 countries. Many were flown by our wonderfully active and creative Roots & Shoots groups. Doves flew in peace marches, on top of mountains and buildings, in parks, along waterways, at the Coliseum in Rome and in a refugee camp in Tanzania. Albanian and Kosovan children flew two peace doves on the bridge over the Ibar River that separates their two ethnic groups. Palestinian Arab and Israeli Jewish children flew a giant peace dove in Nazareth. A peace dove even served as a huppha at a wedding in California. This year we hope to see even more doves flying all around the globe. With these humble creations made out of recycled materials we remind everyone of the truth they sometimes forget that peace is possible. We celebrate all that is free and noble in the human spirit. And we celebrate all that so many people have done throughout the year and will do next year to create a better world. I do hope you will join this worldwide community today. Your participation means so much. I want each of you to know that I firmly believe that your prayers and wishes for peace will one day be answered.
Love,
Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE Founder, Jane Goodall Institute UN Messenger of Peace
Yes, those Idiots think that by flying puppets they will achieve peace, prosperity and democracy.
Only if we can also have a really big Michael Moore puppet and have it sit on Mikey's puppet head between flights.
Nothing like a big white Dove puppet to put the fear of Allah into the Islamofascists. That ought to do it.
I think we'll have "peace in our time".
Sounds like Australian pornography.
(just kidding, I've never eaten dove, but I'd try it.)
I am a soldier and first thing I hope for is war as a last resort...unfortunately for any terrorist faction they attacked us first....yes peace through any means is a nice 'Idea"...truthfully I don't see flying a giant puppet dove stopping a war or terrorist from hating the white devil at all
With a little modification they could be made to look like flying eagles.
Now your talkin' Now that would make a picture a bunch of children flying a giant Eagle puppet....wouldn't that make anti-patriots angry...
The only message this kind of tripe sends to our enemies is exactly what it sent during the Vietnam War. That the United States has citizens who lack the resolve to fight for what they want. Fortunately, it seems that at least during the start of this war, we have leadership who understands what it takes to secure freedom.

Editor's Note: Bombarding Thailand's Muslim-majority southern provinces with millions of origami paper birds -- a recent move by Thailand's leaders -- failed because of the government's longtime neglect and continuing abuse of its Muslim population.
Last April in Bangkok, I saw a man selling birds at a Buddhist temple's entrance. Worshippers, he told me, often buy and then release these birds as a way to garner good karma. When I asked the birdman whether he would catch these birds in the first place if there hadn't been such a market for them, he looked confused. No one had ever asked him this question.
A similar question could be asked of the Thai government in its dealing with its Muslim minority.
Prime Minister Shinawatra Thaksin, in his effort to pacify Thailand's restive southern provinces, recently bombarded the inhabitants with white paper origami in the shape of cranes by the millions -- a spectacle heavy on symbolism but light on substance. The question: If the Thai government had been fair and just in dealing with its Muslim minorities all along, would it have to resort to theatrics in search of elusive peace?
The efforts by and large did not work. Immediately after, two bombs went off, another was defused and the owner of a tea shop in Pattani province was slain by gunmen. Assailants also threw grenades at the homes of two policemen in the same province, while in Yala, arsonists set fire to a state school.
[ . . . ]
The reality is that, paper birds notwithstanding, the rage of Thailand's Muslim minorities remains woefully unaddressed, and in fact the Thai government still treats them brutally.

Do these people have real jobs or are we paying for them to make puppets.
I need a little warm up for bird season.....PULL!
Yeah okay, but I don't see the brutalized Christian minorities in China, India and throughout S.E. Asia reacting violently to their treatment. What does that tell you about Islam?
Yes believe me I have been watching the news and paid attention to what is going on in the states...It makes a soldier wonderwhere Some of the citizen's loyalties lie. I am glad we have leadership that understands what it takes....lets hope we have a few more like him...
Their peace puppet work was paid for by a United Nations grant. And, since the U.S.A. contributes almost 25% of the U.N.'s annual budget, some of your tax dollars helped pay for this. Makes you feel warm all over, doesn't it?
Amen.
Well, we do know that these gimmicks don't seem to create peace. In my opinion, you can't reason with the unreasonable, and most of these Islamofascists are just that--unreasonable.
