Of course, I've been using Opera for a while, so I see little need to switch over to Firefox.

So, can you recommend this switch to us inertia-bound non-tech-savvy IE users?

Moxilla? Whats the big deal? I have tried it on my Windows XP based computer and found it riff with boo boos, and general hassels. I am not impressed.

If Mozilla ever makes POSTDATA scripting compatible to Firefox....I.E. is toast.

I've switched all of my home computers to firefox and am downloading it right now for my work computer.

The only negative is the lousy formatting of my mail responses in Hotmail. But what do you expect from an MS Centric mail system. It is a small price to pay.

feels that people will stick with IE when they consider all the things that made them to opt for IE in the first place.

So Microsoft is going to get even more authors of web sites to make their pages require Explorer?

I can just see the stockholder faces now! We took over a percent of a Microsoft free internet explorer with our free browser... how much did we make?

Firefox is the BEST! The extensions are great. Even if you want to use IE as a backup, download the "IE view" extension and fire it up when needed. I almost never use IE anymore. This because of IE being a magnet for malware, security exploits, adware, lack of effective built-in-popup blocking mechanism, and it being a resource hog.

Firefox is lightweight, highly configurable, and most of all subject to peer code review.

It is an open source software which improves with time as bug-reporter and bug-fixer community grows.

AND what's to stop the "hacker" community from entering the fray? It seems to me if you want total safety, turn off the computer and move to a mountain top.

Maybe this is because Microsoft bundling Internet Explorer with Windows really wasn't keeping Netscape from competing. Netscape just wasn't a better product than Explorer.

Now it is, and it's rapidly gaining market share.

Once again, the only ones who really gained from the government intervening in the market were the lawyers.

Before I heard of Firefox, I took a one year subscription to Stopzilla, which is advertized to block popup's which were driving me crazy. Stopzilla keeps a running count of blocks so you can review them before clearing. I just checked and it had effectively blocked 224 popups between December 7 and this morning, so it really does work.
I have been using Firefox only for the past two weeks and it's hard to really be sure of it's claims since many protection safeguards work in the background. It does seem to work faster than Netscape or IE but it takes me a click or two more to get to my e-mail. The Firefox "homepage" isn't very jazzy but, one of the reasons that I switched to them was that I was fed up with the Netscape "news" summary which seemed to me to be slightly left of center and anti Bush in tone. They can go preach to the converted - I've stopped buying.

I like Firefox, as well. But I don't know that it's as flexible as IE. And I don't know that it is any less vulnerable. As it catches on, the thieves out there will attempt to break into it. But once you get a few 'toolbars' inadvertently installed on IE, BHOs, and a few other things, even after you pull them out it does seem to break down and become unstable, as if the libraries have been corrupted (or maybe some undocumented registry junk). And you don't want to have to reinstall the whole, everytime. But I still prefer IE over Firefox. We'll see if that remains true in a few months.

Firefox = Open Source = Communism

Giving away things for free is not the American way. It kills jobs and hurts the economy. Blocking advertisments means you are taking a website's content without paying for it. That's stealing! We don't want to end up becoming a socialist country, do we?

That's why I'll never put that piece of crap on my computer. Always keep in mind that anyone, including Europeans and Chinese, can mess with Firefox' open source code and put all kinds of spyware into it. I'd rather stick with IE, because that's the way to keep the computer secure. BTW, Windows Update Service won't work with Firefox, so you won't be able to download patches for your computer anymore. IE certainly is superior to Firefox.

Redmond still doesn't understand the concept of the web. Browsers and search engines (and FR) are critical utilities on the web - MS does neither well.

They don't do webservers and networking well, either...same for operating systems and directories.....
