"SHOP AT TARGET -- THEY SUPPORT LGBTQ FAMILIES" (Heads up Barf Alert)

SHOP AT TARGET -- THEY SUPPORT LGBTQ FAMILIES

Rainbow Law is calling for the LGBTQ community to support and shop at Target stores this holiday season. After Target refused to allow the Salvation Army to place bell-ringers and kettles at their stores (because they discriminate against the LGBTQ community), the anti-gay equality crusaders began their usual lies and propaganda campaign.

There is no reason to let this attack go unchallenged. We have the power to counter the far right's relentless assault on our civil rights and liberties. And one of the most effective methods for defeating unfair practices is by using the power of our combined financial resources.

Why would you continue to support companies who donate millions of dollars to campaigns and politicians who are hell-bent on destroying your family?

Rainbow Law has compiled a detailed list of the companies that contributed money in support of campaigns and candidates who oppose equal marriage rights and we are calling for a general boycott of these companies. [FReepers take note: please support these companies to counteract any pressure the LGBT might bring!]

To win the election at any cost, political campaigns lied about Gay and Lesbian Families and they lied about what Equal Marriage really means. Because of those lies, eleven state constitutional amendments banning equal marriage rights passed.

And the opposition was successful in spreading the lies via the media. That is why Rainbow Law also suggests that we find an alternative to mainstream newspapers, television and radio stations. Especially Clear Channel Communications and Fox Television -- two media giants with a proven right-wing bias and agenda.

For an alternative perspective, turn the channel -- listen to and support your local public broadcasting stations. Watch your Public Broadcasting station for the news. Listen to National Public Radio and Air America Radio and read newspapers and magazines like Rainbow Law's Un-Censored E-Zine.

In addition to supporting Target Corporation for their courage to stand up to injustice, we hope you will think queer as you make any purchase.

Instead of spending money at straight-owned enterprises, purchase products from queer owned or queer friendly merchants. When you are in the market for a new home, car, insurance, etc, support people who support your family. If you need help at work or at home, hire queer people to do things.

In the past, boycotts have been used successfully to pressure corporate supporters of bigoted politicians into withdrawing their financial contributions.

Together we have the power to make a difference!

As someone who evidently lives in one of the blue states, let me say that it is obvious where your sympathies lie. Target chose the easy road, the one that the MSM would give them little or no heat about.

In my opinion, you are taking the easy road as well. It's easy to sit here and type, saying Good=good and Bad=bad, and Target=Bad. It takes a little more intellectual exercise to actually sit back and ponder the choices that Target was forced into, and decide what the alternatives would be.

I happen to respect Target. I'll admit that respect has grown since I met my wife (who was already working at Target) and was given insight into the charities that Target works with, as well as the other good that they do.

I've been contracting with them for the past couple of years as one of my primary contracts. Some of the rose-color has been stripped from my glasses as I've learned that they are a corporation like any other that I've worked with. They've got the same back-stabbers, the same beauracratic mentality that I've found anywhere else. They treat contractors less well than some places I've been at, but better than a few.

Target has good policies, and they have some stupid ones. My sympathies lie with the idea that this corporation, any corporation would be put into a position of being damned if they do, and damned if they don't. And, once damned, they're vilified by both sides.

Someone on the Minnesota thread, I can't remember the name offhand, made an excellent observation: Corporations should not be in the charity business. They shouldn't give, as a company, at all.

I tend to agree.

If it were my private company, I'd be inclined to fight the impending lawsuits. It's not my private company, though, and given the stockholders and employees that the company is beholden to, I think they made the best of three lousy choices.

Why the hate?

I meant no hate.

I was complimenting you on sticking around for the dissenting view and taking the time to disagree with me, instead of just blindly jumping on the bandwagon.

I hope they loose a bundle over this.

They took a serious hit in the 80's when they openly boasted of their unplanned parenthood support. A few months later they posted a huge quarterly loss but blamed it on the economy.

When a company stresses 'diversity' as much as revenue generation then our once great capitalist economy is in serious danger of collapse.

Agreed. Sometimes it's a reflection of ideology, sometimes it's fear of getting sued. It's up to us to divine the difference and attack where it'll actually do some good.

I prefer tort reform to boycotts.

They can't exist on donations alone. They are 501c3 charities which means that their political tongue has been cut.

We need to pull ALL government funding including their illegal tax dodge. Let them get commercial sponsorship from Tar'get (a French sounding name if I ever heard one...).

Target, like most large corporations in America today is managed by baby boomer punks who have no moral center and will say and do anything to extend their own position. Now that Target has come out of the closet and publicly sided with the sodomites, the choice for all right thinking individuals should be clear. Do not shop at Target. End of story.

Please let me know of some place else that has the classic Winnie the Pooh toys. That's the reason I had started to shop at Target.

I used to put a little change in the salvation Army kettles at Christmas time. This year, I am putting a $5 bill in every time I see one. Costing me big time.......I'm blaming the ALCU and Target!

Heck I used to ignore the kettles now I can't help but contribute every time, it's all Target's fault.

Makes sense. You have to pick your priorities I suppose. Right now all my letter writing is targeting my daughter's school for its farce of a holiday concert. I have written the principal, school superintendent, and music teacher over the fact that there were no Christmas songs, but instead songs in English and Spanish about peace, made up by the music teacher. She wore a islamic symbol on a sash, a menorah, but no cross. And they sang about a peaceful ramadan, but no Christmas. Anyway, I can only handle one issue at a time or I'd burst a blood vessel. Thanks, though.

Gay plumbers? Since when has a homosexual understood what direction things are supposed to flow through plumbing?

It is still scandalous to be caught reading a comic book (as opposed to such high minded periodicals as Maxim or Newsweek) yet there is no shame in grown adults going to see the X-Men, Superman, Batman, or Spider-Man movies (even if they haven't touched a comic book in 20 years).
