SHOP AT TARGET -- THEY SUPPORT LGBTQ FAMILIES
Rainbow Law is calling for the LGBTQ community to support and shop at Target stores this holiday season. After Target refused to allow the Salvation Army to place bell-ringers and kettles at their stores (because they discriminate against the LGBTQ community), the anti-gay equality crusaders began their usual lies and propaganda campaign.
There is no reason to let this attack go unchallenged. We have the power to counter the far right's relentless assault on our civil rights and liberties. And one of the most effective methods for defeating unfair practices is by using the power of our combined financial resources.
Why would you continue to support companies who donate millions of dollars to campaigns and politicians who are hell-bent on destroying your family?
Rainbow Law has compiled a detailed list of the companies that contributed money in support of campaigns and candidates who oppose equal marriage rights and we are calling for a general boycott of these companies. [FReepers take note: please support these companies to counteract any pressure the LGBT might bring!]
To win the election at any cost, political campaigns lied about Gay and Lesbian Families and they lied about what Equal Marriage really means. Because of those lies, eleven state constitutional amendments banning equal marriage rights passed.
And the opposition was successful in spreading the lies via the media. That is why Rainbow Law also suggests that we find an alternative to mainstream newspapers, television and radio stations. Especially Clear Channel Communications and Fox Television -- two media giants with a proven right-wing bias and agenda.
For an alternative perspective, turn the channel -- listen to and support your local public broadcasting stations. Watch your Public Broadcasting station for the news. Listen to National Public Radio and Air America Radio and read newspapers and magazines like Rainbow Law's Un-Censored E-Zine.
In addition to supporting Target Corporation for their courage to stand up to injustice, we hope you will think queer as you make any purchase.
Instead of spending money at straight-owned enterprises, purchase products from queer owned or queer friendly merchants. When you are in the market for a new home, car, insurance, etc, support people who support your family. If you need help at work or at home, hire queer people to do things.
In the past, boycotts have been used successfully to pressure corporate supporters of bigoted politicians into withdrawing their financial contributions.
Together we have the power to make a difference!
Target used to be owned by Dayton-Hudson. DHC is no more. It was renamed to Target Corporation in honor of the fact that Target (as opposed to the renamed and now divested Marshall-Fields as well as Mervyns) was keeping the entire company afloat.
While Mark Dayton doubtlessly owns stock in Target Corporation, my understanding is that he has no say in how the company runs itself.
Well, they're being sued. But they're winning or appealing every case. It's a shame they have to go through this... But what type of organization would the Boy Scouts be if they followed Target's example? Should they allow girls, homosexual leaders, and remove all references to God just to avoid lawsuits? I certainly hope they don't.
Target is a business not a church.
Granted. But advertised charitible contributions are good for business. And highly publicized snubs to a major charitable organization at the time of year that they collect the most money? A poor business decision.
I'd put its contributions up against any major U.S. corporation in a heartbeat.
You're dead on. They're really good with where they spend their own money and should be commended for that. But, as they say, trust is built over years and lost in a day. Will Nixon ever be remembered for the good he did? Benedict Arnold? OJ Simpson? It's just the way things are.
You know... I'm not out to bankrupt Target. I'm out to help the Salvation Army. I'm hoping that Target will change its mind.
On that note, I also suggest people donate more to the SA this year to make up for lost revenue. I have.
Well your theory sounds more realistic and reasonable than the article that started this thread. Don't you just love snopes?
I disagree.
I emailed them and said I refused to shop at their stores this year because of their treatment of the Salvation Army. They replied with a lengthy explanation that basically said they could not discriminate between charities and so banned all of them. I replied that my decision stands and I will wait until next Christmas season to see if their policy has changed. If not i will again avoid their store.
The Target and K-Mart television ads have been enough to keep me from their stores. The Target ban on the Salvation Army is just one more reason. Both K-Mart and Target support the sodomite agenda and need to be shut down.
Target's sodomite advertisements should be enough to keep normal folks away from their stores.
Pier One is also controlled by sodomites.
I know about Pier One, but I haven't seen any Gay adverts for Target. I must be reading the wrong magazines.
Either way is correct. Yours sounds better. You don't work for Target or the Salvation (I'm assuming) and are therefore not an involved party, and therefore don't know what was discussed nor how it was phrased-- thus my underlying point on your statement.
I, too, have been fighting this (arguably) losing battle on several threads, and the Minnesota channel, as well as with under-informed friends and even family. I don't know anything "secret" that Target hasn't already put out, in an albeit lousy fashion that, frankly, someone should be fired for their mishandling of.
...Free enterprise is great! I'll respond with a consumer decision.
Got no problem with that-- I've got a problem with the "flock" suddenly deciding, on a whim, that Target is an evil, pro-gay organization based on innuendo, lies, and disproven rumors. It's the least I can do to attempt to bring people's attention to it.
Thus, some of us might decide that's a good reason to increase our kettle donations at Wal-Marts, rather than respond to Target's business decision as you have (with indifference, at best).
By all means! SA is probably one of the most worthwhile organizations out there. There's a kettle right next to the lobby of one of Target's headquarters here in Minneapolis, and you'd be surprised at the number of Target employees (of which, my wife is) and contractors (of which, I am) are walking by and contributing.
Your term "indifference" again points to how non-party and non-privy you are to what's happening in the Target organization. It's not your fault-- how are you to know? From Target's lame statement? From all the fresh anti-Target propoganda? When someone gives you a different perspective from your own, however, you might want to avoid referring to their stance as "indifferent".
"Biased" maybe...but that's a different story! ;-)
I wouldn't knowingly hire a homosexual or for that matter an adulterous heterosexual. Both are out of control and cannot be trusted.
What a bunch of straw man tripe.
Yeah, I was over the top a little. ...Then again, have you been to a Walmart lately?
Apart from a few hundred dollars to the Republicans that the CEO suports, most of the money has gone to lieberal Republicans: Giuliani, Ryan, etc. Not a dollar went to the Republican campaign for Bush/Cheney
Some interesting insider trading done by a Muslim ...I wonder if this is the source of the Salvation Army blacklisting?
We need to send a message loud and clear to the sodomites and appeasers who are running much of corporate America that we are fed up.
The pro-gay groups won't touch Marshall Fields. Half of them work there. (If you don't believe me, walk through any store and do a count.) I, for one, was extremely happy when Target sold them-- on various fronts.
...which, by definition, separates you from the people who don't bother to-- but blindly act anyway.
I think my exact words were, "indifferent, at best," meaning I gave you the benefit of the doubt, e.g. perhaps your crowing about continuing to shop there could be for some then-yet-undisclosed reasons (now we know).
Target employees (of which, my wife is) and contractors (of which, I am)
You might want to consider including a disclaimer when replying in a thread where your chosen position comes from what some would term, rightly or wrongly, a "conflict of interest." Full disclosure is a good thing.
Frankly, it doesn't matter to me why Target told the SA to stay away. Target did; its competitors didn't. As I posted in that previous thread, if the day comes when the SA is banned from all or even most of Target's competitors, I might start shopping at Target again. Meanwhile, I'll keep taking my empty soda cans there. Because, I not only think they have the best bottle- and can-redemption process in town but, I also like the thought of taking that money and putting it in the SA kettle at Wal-Mart.
