SHOP AT TARGET -- THEY SUPPORT LGBTQ FAMILIES
Rainbow Law is calling for the LGBTQ community to support and shop at Target stores this holiday season. After Target refused to allow the Salvation Army to place bell-ringers and kettles at their stores (because they discriminate against the LGBTQ community), the anti-gay equality crusaders began their usual lies and propaganda campaign.
There is no reason to let this attack go unchallenged. We have the power to counter the far right's relentless assault on our civil rights and liberties. And one of the most effective methods for defeating unfair practices is by using the power of our combined financial resources.
Why would you continue to support companies who donate millions of dollars to campaigns and politicians who are hell-bent on destroying your family?
Rainbow Law has compiled a detailed list of the companies that contributed money in support of campaigns and candidates who oppose equal marriage rights and we are calling for a general boycott of these companies. [FReepers take note: please support these companies to counteract any pressure the LGBT might bring!]
To win the election at any cost, political campaigns lied about Gay and Lesbian Families and they lied about what Equal Marriage really means. Because of those lies, eleven state constitutional amendments banning equal marriage rights passed.
And the opposition was successful in spreading the lies via the media. That is why Rainbow Law also suggests that we find an alternative to mainstream newspapers, television and radio stations. Especially Clear Channel Communications and Fox Television -- two media giants with a proven right-wing bias and agenda.
For an alternative perspective, turn the channel -- listen to and support your local public broadcasting stations. Watch your Public Broadcasting station for the news. Listen to National Public Radio and Air America Radio and read newspapers and magazines like Rainbow Law's Un-Censored E-Zine.
In addition to supporting Target Corporation for their courage to stand up to injustice, we hope you will think queer as you make any purchase.
Instead of spending money at straight-owned enterprises, purchase products from queer owned or queer friendly merchants. When you are in the market for a new home, car, insurance, etc, support people who support your family. If you need help at work or at home, hire queer people to do things.
In the past, boycotts have been used successfully to pressure corporate supporters of bigoted politicians into withdrawing their financial contributions.
Together we have the power to make a difference!

I decided NOT SHOP. Target's ads are starting to irriate me anyway.
I'm not sure becoming a gay boutique is a wise or viable long term strategy for Target.
I consider both to be knee-jerk reactions, and equally invalid.
Target doesn't support GLBKJGKLJDFKLDF(insert letters here) causes anymore than it supports Christian ones.
For years, Target had a good relationiship with the SA, an extremely decent charitable organization (among other things), but the SA's bell-ringer presence on Target property was a quiet exception to the policy. Once the policy, and especially SA's exception started getting more and more heat, it became apparent to Target that they had three choices, all of them losers:
They actually said "we hope you will think queer". I find that bizarre. Been boycotting Target anyway; owned by the French.

Wow, really? I received so many e-mails last year asking me to boycott them because they were a French company..thanks for the update on this Clemenza. Have to look into the source of the confusion..
And Target's decision to ban Kettler's was just about their worries over lawsuits.... NOT!!
Their "reason" never passed the smell test, and passes it even less now.
Kmart/Sears and Kaufmann's got my $$ this year... Target used to count on a good $500 to $2000 a year from me... not any more.
I commend those that avoid the bandwagon, knee-jerk approach. I commend those that, once they've chosen to follow that (in my view, unrealistic) policy, they do so consistently.
Anything less plays into the hands of the enemy, harming decent businesses that have been forced to walk the PC line. Worse, it's hypocritical.

Does anyone have a list of charities that Target DOES donate to? I am not going to boycott because they hire americans and if their sales go down...good innocent people may get laid off or fired.
I don't know about you, but my head is spinning right about now--this store is owned by a French company, that store has CD's by that anti-American artist, that store has stuff made in China, that store stocks Che Guevera shirts, I can't buy this DVD because this actor said these awful things, AAAAHHHHH!! I think I'll just throw up my brains and die.

Will this result in a male 'dress' section; genderless public bathrooms; a fully equiped sex toy and s&m bondage section, and queer sex vids? (sarcasm)
Maybe the secret is to take from them that which is good, as cheaply as possible, and not get the regular stuff, like detergent, that can be bought elsewhere. Store ads and sales are often loss-leaders just promoted to get you to come in and buy something else at regular price. If they are only selling the stuff which is priced to lose, the corporation won't profit.
BTW, I have yet to be in a store this holiday season, with the exception of Borders, that seemed crowded. Anyway they look at it, retailers are probably not having that good a year if they are Sear, Target, Wal-Mart, or K-Mart.
I can count the times I've been in Targets. Now knowing they are seemingly in favor of, and supported by, "alien life forms", and my being the devout homophobe I am, I certainly won't be adding to that count.
I do understand they are not owned by any foreign company and have gotten some bad press from other things unrelated to the Salvation Army policy.
Target says, "Salvation Army, you're not welcome here." In case you didn't know, the word 'Salvation' refers to the gift of Jesus Christ.
Thus, there is a not-so-subtle difference between what Target has done and the examples you cited.
