WASHINGTON - The Food and Drug Administration Monday issued a warning to patients taking the painkiller naproxen [snip] for increased risk of heart problems.
Patients taking naproxen, [snip] should not take it for more than 10 days unless directed by their doctor, the FDA said in a statement.

Another trial attorney Christmas dream come true.
Don't know how anyone could take it for more than ten days. It tears my stomach to pieces by the second day.

I've been on it for over 2 years, and celebrex before that. I guess I am screwed. I guess you have to die of something!

What is your opinion on Advil (or other ibuprophens)?
I take it occasionally for back pain, but when I do need it, I need three or four to do the job.
I hope you don't scare me, but I would appreciate your opinion!
Thank you!

I was on three tabs/eight hours continuously for three years. And, yes, it left my upper GI screwed.

"Patients taking naproxen, [snip] should not take it for more than 10 days unless directed by their doctor, the FDA said in a statement" In a related announcement , The FDA also issued a warning that ingesting oxygen, consuming comestibles or engaging in any sort of locomotive activity would lead to a 100% increase in the onset of potential and terminal cessation of life. Therefore it has recommended that those not yet alive to remain as such.

I guess you have to die of something! That's what Jocelyn Elders said! It sounded so funny coming from the U.S. Sturgeon General!

Ouch! Hope it's not cumulative. When I ruptured a disk a few years ago, I took 3 500mg naproxen tablets every day for six months. I'm glad that's behind me, lol!

"It tears my stomach to pieces by the second day."
It doesn't hurt my stomach - I do not take any naproxen product.
Tylenol can destroy your liver.
I limit my use of painkillers to a rare aspirin - it is still the best for a headache or joint discomfort. IMO.

Advil studies were reviewed again when this latest revelation was discovered today. Other than the potential for gastric irritation, & aspirin cross allergy, ibuprofen is considered relatively safe. Of course, always try to take the minimum necessary to achieve relief.
btw--I am a BIG fan of the Advil Liquigels. Fast acting! I haven't taken Tylenol in years, for a variety of reasons (it doesn't work as well, and that nagging concern about liver damage).

FDA issues warning regarding the use of di-hydrogen oxide.
Tests have indicated that prolonged exposure to this substance causes severe oxidation, death and could result in vessels failing to remain afloat.

I've had surgery 3 times for joint disease. Arthorscopic to repair a tear on right shoulder, full-blown rotator cuff complete repair (um, basketball injury when I was 40), and then laminectomy to totally fuse S3-S2-S1-L1 in 2000. I live on painkillers. Unless you've lived constantly with pain like these, then please give us some sympathy and understanding. Aspirin *may* work OK for you. Great. I'm happy for you. But there are many of us for whom stronger pain relief is a necessity to keep the pain demons away.

There isn't really much I can take now. I had an ulcer when I was younger, so I can't take aspirin. I have a genetic pre-disposition to an enlarged liver, and a high bilirubin(sp?) count so I can't take Tylenol. Ibuprofin doesn't agree with my stomach.
Maybe I qualify for medicinal marijuana ;)

I take Naproxin, when the ketoprufin,(OrudisKT) and the Excedrin no longer work.
Excedrin is the only substance that has ever caused me any stomach problems.

My husband and I have had back problems. Aspirin is insufficient to deal with the pain. I take Naprosyn, he takes Vioxx (soon to run out, needless to say), because nothing else works!! That does it, I'm eating bacon cooked in butter, drinking a few pots of coffee (interspersed with some form of liquor) and taking up smoking. It can't get much worse.

Prolong use of Ibuprofens *can* harm the kidneys.
