USO Operation Phone Home CHALLENGE!
USO ^ | 12/19/04

Posted on 12/19/2004 6:52:57 PM PST by the crow

There have been a few threads lately regarding people's effort to support the troops during this holiday season. Unfortunately, they have been a little quiet.

Accordingly, I would like to isssue a Christmas challenge to my fellow FReepers: I will match the next $500 in donations to USO Operation Phone Home. A link is provided above.

If you have been thinking about donating, but have not as of yet, now is the time to double your money! Help those people defending our country. They will greatly appreciate it.

thanks, TexKat.

I have been in contact with some USO people regarding designated donations for a specific location, such as Korea. I was informed:

"If donations are made via the World Headquarters Website or their 800 number, they are for the program at large ... I think most of these are going to other parts of the world. If you want to donate funds specifically for USO Korea, please send directly to us, and we will use for the specific purpose desired.

Business donations are definitely okay."

there are links with addresses to many international and local chapters of the USO. anywhere you send it is fine with me. just be aware if you want to donate to USO/Korea, for example, you will need to mail them a check and specify you request. Mr. Stan Perry of USO/Korea assures me they will more than pleased to honor your request.

Thank You for your donation, AggieCPA! A very good start.

Also, should someone decide to donate directly to a foreign USO chapter, they all appear to be APO addresses. as I understand it, these only require regular US postage. if I am mistaken, someone please correct me.

thanks again, AC!

WOW. Let's go FReepers. Show us where your heart is at this time of year. As many of you already know, I'm here in Korea myself and can attest to {thecrow} saying this is a good cause.
They don't give us civilian employees cards, but we can partake of virtually all the services that the USO offers here. This is definitely a worthy cause.
If you folks have any questions about Korea or general questions about the USO, feel free to send me a private reply. Hats off to {thecrow} for his generosity. Thanks FReepers for supporting our troops.

You are correct. Letters to APO's only require 1st class US postage rates.
Packages are different. They require package rates to either the east coast(Atlantic) or west coast(Pacific). Hope this helps.

And APO AP addresses with eith 96XXX or 962XX are for the Korea area. Mine in Seoul is APO AP 96205 for example.
APO represents the city and AP represents the state(a little trivia)

it is a great idea, isn't it? conshack inspired me with a post asking for help for the troops on the DMZ.

I thought this would be a great gift for my family. they already have enough stuff, and greatly appreciate the troops. so a donation in their name will be made on my part.

please let me know the amount of your donation, as I am keeping track. freepmail is fine if you prefer.

again, many thanks. Merry Christmas!

We speak so much about Iraq and Afghanistan and forget that we have soldiers serving in Korea, Philippines, Germany, Croatia, Gitmo, many places where our troops have a tough time getting things from home.

Anyway just wanted to point out there are many deserving of our kindness and generosity.
