Major East Coast Storm In The Works

From Accuweather.com: There are some definite signs that a major storm will take shape along the Carolina coastline Sunday. From there, it will rapidly strengthen and spin northward up the coast Sunday night and Monday. Fuel for the storm will be a direct confrontation between very cold air charging southward through the Great Lakes and mild air streaming in from off the Atlantic Ocean. The clash of air masses will be the product of an unusually large amplification of the jet stream. This storm could have major impact on shopping and travel late in the weekend and early next week. When the exact track of the storm becomes more evident, AccuWeather.com will bring you the specifics on timing and actual snow accumulations.

I also subscribe to the Accuweather Pro site but I originally signed up for their hurricane coverage as I live in South Louisiana. It is so thorough and has so many features I'm going to keep it. That Bastardi is a hoot. You ever watch his "big dog" videos?

Joe B has been with Accuweather for many years now. He and the rest of the people are from P S U and you can hear him on many early morning drive radio shows.

He is orginially from the Jersey Shore and was into weight training.

Blanket, very pretty. Burried --- very ugly. This sounds like it could be a monster storm. Not a good thing.

Don't you know that "Eastern Hardpack" is ice in gentler terms. Powder is something we don't see in the east. I'll take skiing where ever I can find it!!!

There was such a thing. I believe it was in 1997 but don't quote me on that. It was the confluence to two storms. One that pounded FL and the southeast with storms and tornados, and one that brought bitter cold to the GL area and upper midwest. They came together over the MA and NE states and produced big time snows. I think atr one time it was called the perfect storm.

Busturdi is basically a scam artist. Check out various weather boards on the web, he's considered a joke by most people. However he's got a hard-core group of cult worshippers drinking his Kool-Aid; they typically spend all of their time basically parroting what he writes in his columns.

He's the weather equivalent of Jim Jones or David Koresh. I think the fact that he's not very good looking and not particularly well spoken and writes in a semi-incoherent manner makes him seem more "authentic." Over time I've seen a lot of people who were once JB fans finally see the light, though.

His modus operandi is to basically, every week, predict the most extreme weather he can possibly justify for the next week. In the summer, this means that every single week during June and July, he predicted tropical storm formation in the Gulf and Atlantic, usually 2-3 times a week, for the upcoming week. Of course, he'll eventually be right, and was finally right by August. During the winter, every week, he'll basically hint at/forecast a major snowstorm for the East Coast. This guarantees that if there IS A big snowstorm, he'll have "predicted it." However, he'll have a huge number of false positives.

Well, I guess I am one of your kool-aid drinkers. I have listened to him now for a couple of years, and frankly I have not ever heard him making such regular extreme claims. In fact, most of the time that he has made the predictions of extreme weather here (once or twice a season), he has been accurate. Don't know why your experience varies from mine.
