Texas School District Bans Christmas Colors
Maranatha Christian Journal ^ | December 16, 2004

Posted on 12/16/2004 8:54:46 AM PST by RayChuang88

(MCNS)--Attorneys filed a federal civil rights lawsuit today against the Plano Independent School District for a discriminatory policy that censors the Christmas religious expression of students and their parents.

“The policy is a perfect example of politically correct extremism,” said Alliance Defense Fund Senior Counsel Gary McCaleb.

“School officials have gone so far as to prohibit students from wearing red and green at their ‘winter break’ parties because they claim they are Christmas colors. Even the plates and napkins must be white. The district’s policy is ludicrous to even the most common observer.”

WHat was it...."Don't mess with...".

It sounds as though the Christians of Texas need to mess with a lot that's going on.

But than when we do countries like the UK hate us for our unilaterilism.

I thought that the British Army was fighting alongside yours in Iraq - do correct me if I'm wrong.

As they can in Pakistan, Iran, and Saudi Arabia.

Give it a little while and I reckon it'll be easier to celebrate Christmas in Pakistan, Iran or Saudi Arabia than in America.

That Peggy Noonan piece in the Journal about the Dems and Christmas make more and more sense.

So, they are discriminating on the basis of Color, right?

I get pissed off when someone who signed up yesterday comes in here and pisses all over Americans while all the time claiming their country is the best bastion of all that is right in the world without any drawbacks whatsoever

I think that this refers to me, so may I may a couple of points and corrections.

He first denigrates the the Constitution calling it "silly pieces of paper to wave around".
That was not to attack the constitution per se but rather to illustrate the thin basis for your freedoms. The U.S. Constitution is a masterpiece of its form - but I personally prefer our unwritten constitution.

Calls us "adolescent".
The United States are barely more than 200 years old, the country is adolscent, not the individuals therein.

Tells us to "watch out" for our liberty as we have no Monarchy (!) to make us safe.
True.

Criticizes America for being "obsessed" with Diana, whereas in Britain they are so past all that.
I never quite understood why we went mad after her death, but whatever happened back there, we are passed it - apart from a few loons and one gets those everywhere.

Claims the English never so much as mussed an Irishman's hair a little.
Not quite, we ruled the place for a long while, a couple of our leaders did some disgraceful things there, namely Oliver Cromwell (who was a military dictator) and William Prince of Orange (who usurped the Crown) - neither of whom I support. The claim that we caused the potato(e) famine is nonsense spread by anti-British revolutionaries, and is as mythical as that we had extortionate taxation on the north American colonies before 1776.

Wouldn't dare feign to listen to criticism that his own country may have problems with politically correct bureaucrats.
Oh we do have problems, I acknowledge those problems, it's just that they are far less than a constitutional ban on religion.

Smears all Republicans with the old Dan Quayle incident.
Sorry I've just done it again.

Finds Tony Martin to be less than honorable.
Assuming that honorable means something similar to honourable, yes I do. As did a jury of 12 of his peers.

Pretends not to have heard of private schools in America.
No I did not, but I thought that discussion of them was not terribly relevant when we were talking about state schools (which I believe you call public schools) and the constitutional ban on religion.

Calls us barbarians.
If you think that that was aimed at you then fine by me; but it was actually part of a larger phrase 'pagan barbarity'.

Tosses another slur on Americans.
My we are thin-skinned today, if you think that 'ketchup-eaters south of the 49th' is such a terribly slur perhaps you should lock yourself in a cold-dark room to avoid being insulted.

Denigrates the Supreme Court Justices.
No I denegrated their tasteless outfits. Scarlet robes and wigs are so much more wonderful.

When finally confronted with evidence of PC crazies in Britain he claims that British city councils have less power than an American school district administrator.
I drew no specific comparison between council powers and those of a school district administrator. I said that they had little power, and could merely change a few words. This does not change the fact that our children can wear red clothes to a Christmas party.

Claims the heroic veterans of WWII hampered Britain's fight against the Nazis in spite of the 3,812 airmen buried in the U.K.
Now that is a serious claim, and is the exact opposite of what I said, therefore I request that you withdraw it. I fully acknowledge the sacrifice made by all allied countries in the Second World War. What I said was that had America arrived in said war earlier we would have been able to kick Nazi arses out of Auschwitz earlier; in other words America aided the war effort, pity it began so late.

I guess nude is the way to go. I use all colors for Christmas. This is ridiculous and out of control.

I guess there's no stoplights allowed in the classroom. And how can I teach my students how to read only 7 basic colors? Now I can't accept any of those apples my students leave. So much for my plant unit too. My students can't bring tomatoes to throw at me. Now when I get embarrassed, I have to turn yellow. Drat it all!!!! We must stop this at once or Santa will have to come dressed in purple and brown. I can't do that to Santa. And who wants to pledge allegiance to a blue and white flag? And there goes half of the lunches each day. This is a travesty.

My kids go to public schools in a very ethnically-diverse suburb of Detroit. At my middle school daughter's band concert the other night, the 8th graders wrapped up the concert with a medley of Christmas carols and tunes (the first of which was Silent Night) while the school's principal (who is well-liked by parents and students and has won many honors)read "Twas the Night Before Christmas". It was met with healthy applause.

I might add that my daughter had told me they were also rehearsing both Hannuka (sp) and Kwanza songs. I don't know which were performed, because I didn't have a program. Our conservative community is also home to some Muslims and I'm sure there were some in the band that evening.

"That is a absurd ban which defies logic and history..."

Same argument was used for banning the Confederate Battle Flag...it lost too. (except in Mississippi).

There is a "ban" trend going on in America, pure liberal/commie incrementalism. If the camel's nose gets in the tent, the rest is sure to follow.

Banning colored napkins is so absurd, it would be laughed out the theatre if a movie was made about it.

Of course, these are the sorts of things that enter when we let the libs start "banning" things, i.e. The Ten Commandment, Cigarettes, Fat Food, Christmas, etc.

Like children, when liberals find out a "tantrum" gets them their way on one thing, they'll use it over and over again.

That was a fact. By the way, it's even though. Oh, yeah, I voted for Bush. If you're looking for some kind of spat from a Liberal (seemingly from the taunting nature of your question), you won't find it here. I'm talking about things like when people report on Iraq on all of these negative things, when actually there are lots of positive things happening as well that does NOT get reported. I'm talking about the articles used to trash the Boy Scouts when they stand for so many positive things. I'm talking about articles against certain religions (some even by so-called conservatives) that are full of hate and untruths.

NOTE I am talking talking about anything to do with homosexuals here, so don't bring up that issue.

I wonder if Dan Rather comes to mind????

Also, I remember things like the ALAR reporting several years ago. Then we found out that it would take eating several boxfuls of apples a day to be harmful. However, it cost Washington apple farmers dearly.

One good start is to find who funds the ACLU, and boycott all these companies, such as Seagram beverage,...?

You haven't paid attention to some of the recent threads regarding the ACLU. You and I pay them!!! Part of the voting act of 1964, where they are reimbursed by the States for bringing lawsuits.
