I never thought I would write the following words, but: God bless Hillary Clinton. Though her motives are cynical, their effects may well be vital both to our national security and to our sovereign responsibility to control our borders. Republican presidents and congressional leaders have for years effortlessly and painlessly given short shrift to conservative Republican congressmen calling to secure our borders and end massive illegal immigration. But they ignore Hillary at their mortal peril. Immigration and border legislation in 2005 is likely to be the last chance the Republicans have to put their stamp on those issues. Their failure to do so would: 1) give Hillary three years to champion such Buchananite reform; 2) visibly split the Republican Party on the issue; 3) thereby undercut the Republican unity President Bush will need to pass his Social Security and Tax reforms, and 4) set up Hillary to patch together an unlikely, but formidable, electoral coalition of disenchanted border-security Republicans and main street Democrats for the 2008 campaign. As Hillary knows better than most, politics makes strange bedfellows.

----I hope sombody high up in the Bush Administration is reading Blankley--I have suspected for a couple of years that the Demotraitors would try and steal immigration reform as an issue---
If it means the GOP will get serious about border security than so be it!!!
The illegal immigration issue does indeed have the potential of splitting the GOP. Best not ignored because it will not go away. Keep shoving it under the rug it is going to make something to trip over.
Splut..splutter..spit..cough..cough.....
Strong Dem policies make for stronger Republicans. I agree that Hillary! 's motives are all out of whack, but if it strengthens the country......
There are threads here on FR that should tell any intelligent person some things:
We are told that Terrorism is a threat. Agreed, but to the majority of people in the southwest, they have not been impacted by terrorism except for those who are military and have been sent to Iraq.
The rest of us have seen hospitals go bankrupt, (so now you may have to go 50 miles or more to an ER or Trauma Center). Most have some friend or neighbor who was hit in a car by an unlicensed, uninsured illegal.
Our schools and freeways are overcrowded.
Illegals bring tuberculosis and encephalitis.
Illegals turn whole neighborhoods into areas resembling Tijuana slums.
Twenty five per cent of the population in the prisons are Illegals.
Yet, nothing can be done because politicians --city, county, and state--are politically correct and do not want to offend Hispanics.
You see, we see it as Right here, Right Now. We are tired of hearing the political and bureacratic statement that " nothing can be done about it".
BTTT
Sorry to see Hillary outsmarting every other politico, but if she goes there I hope to God the pubbies will feel it's OK to put that crucial isue on the table.
Memo to gutless officials (federal, state and local): Hillary is going there cuz there are VOTES there, you ?$$#!! visionless boobs.
So do I. Hitlery is perfect for the role of "political thief."
Where is Hillary's legislation regarding any aspect of this problem?
Why, did she sneeze?
Hillary is just trying to divide the Conservatives. She knows this is a divider between conservatives and Bush...and she's going to use it to her advantage to get votes. Her husband opened the gates more than anyone...she's not fooling me.
I wouldn't go so far as to say God bless her.......maybe, God don't strike her down.....yet.
I suspect this will be the biggest "hot button" in the next presidential election and there is no way I want to see sHillery have a better plank than whomever the Republicans nominate.
Blankley is right. God bless Hillary (pardon as I barf up a lung). Immigration MUST be dealt with. It is the only thing I strongly disagree with my President on. Gotta close the Borders. For all our sakes.
If she is running to the right of "Conservatives" on immigration just what is it that they are conserving?
Blankley is right, she may be an unprincipled cynic but she may get some movement on the issue.
Would it be too much to ask Hillery to back withdrawing from the 1967 UN Outer Space Treaty and establishing property rights in outer space? She is a total opportunist.
She certainly is. But when you hand your opponent an opportunity, don't be surprised when they take it.
God "bless" hilary clinton ...
uh .. you spelled "smite" wrong .
